Heide Lang, First Grade Teacher at Shoreline School District, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Educators for dedication, achievements, and leadership in elementary school instruction.
After initially obtaining a bachelor’s degree in special education with a minor in elementary education from Central Washington University in Ellensburg, Ms. Lang continued her education with a master’s degree in computer science.
Ms. Lang’s teaching career began in Gabbs, Nevada, where she taught special education for two years. After getting married, she moved to Washington and worked as a substitute teacher before applying for a teaching position at Shoreline School District. She taught first graders for 10 years and amassed a total of 33 years, from 1984 to 2017, experience as an educator.
Ms. Lang attributes her success to believing in the children and getting them to believe in themselves. She also credits it to her collaborative approach with other teachers, with who she enjoyed helping as much as she could with their needs, especially when they had special projects with older children. As a career highlight, Ms. Lang cites her experience as a special education teacher. She felt fulfilled whenever she was able to help her students learn to read and spark their excitement for reading. Seeing them believe in themselves was the reward she had always anticipated.
In the recent past, Ms. Lang has volunteered as a first-grade teacher in her daughter’s school and would love to do it again soon. She is also considering doing consulting work in the near future.
