Dan Calvin Boger, PhD, Science Professor and Consultant at Naval Postgraduate School, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Educators for dedication, achievements, and leadership.

Dr. Boger became involved in his work as a result of his intellectual curiosity about research. He was specifically interested in decision making and the research surrounding the process. He chose to pursue education because the act of teaching and working with students was, and always will be, intellectually stimulating. He attended the University of Rochester for his undergraduate studies, earning a Bachelor of Science in management science. He subsequently earned a master’s in management science from the Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey, California, before earning a master’s in statistics from the University of California Berkeley in 1977. In 1979, he concluded his educational endeavors by earning a PhD in economics.

Dr. Boger’s professional pursuits have mostly all taken place under one roof, that of the Naval Postgraduate School. He began his journey as an assistant professor of economics in 1979. In the years since then, his titles have transitioned from associate professor to professor, to chairman, and finally, to dean. Some of his activities as a chairman included chairing the department of computer science, the department of information warfare, and the department of information sciences. It was not until 1997 that he earned the title of dean. From then until 2001, he was dean of the division of computer and information sciences and operations. Several years later, from 2006 until 2009, he served as the dean of research. Today he holds the title of acting dean of the graduate school of operational and information sciences, alongside his roles as a science professor and consultant.

The highlights of Dr. Boger’s career have been his experiences working directly with his students. Some of his most rewarding encounters have been with his thesis students, as several of them have gone on to become quite successful in the United States Navy and Marine Corps. He feels honored to consistently have the opportunity to work with struggling students and directly help them grow into successful individuals. In the future, he looks forward to continuing to work in his current research areas, as well as broaching new topics.

As a testament to his success, Dr. Boger is featured in multiple editions of Who’s Who in Finance and Business, Who’s Who in Finance and Industry, Who’s Who in America, Who’s Who in American Education, Who’s Who in Science and Engineering, Who’s Who in the World, and Who’s Who of Emerging Leaders in America. Moreover, in both 2019 and 2020, he earned the prestigious Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award.
