Gregory Spradley, Retired Music Educator at Potosi High School, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Educators for dedication, achievements, and leadership in music education.

Interested in music from an early age, Mr. Spradley sang in his high school and college choirs. When he was 17 years old, he began directing the First Baptist Church Choir in Arnold, MO, where his wife was his accompanist. He attended Southwest Baptist University as an undergraduate student, receiving a Bachelor of Arts in 1969. From there, he went on to serve Mountain View Birch Tree R-III School District as a vocal and instrumental music director for the following two years. Soon thereafter, he was a longstanding kindergarten through 12th grade vocal and instrumental music director for Southern Reynolds Co. R-II Schools from 1971 to 1999. Transferring to Potosi High School in 1999, he was a vocal music director for four years before his retirement in 2003. Even after retirement, he continues to substitute teach as a music educator at various schools within the Potosi R-III School District.

Alongside his primary endeavors, Mr. Spradley served the First Baptist Church in Bonne Terre, MO, and Piedmont, MO, as a music director for several years between 1994 and 2007. He is a certified vocal and instrumental music teacher for kindergarten through 12th grade. A member of the American Choral Directors Association until 2019, he also previously served as junior high vocal vice president of the Southeast Region of the Missouri State Teachers Association and member of the Missouri Music Teachers Association.

Among the notable highlights of his career, Mr. Spradley recalls directing a Broadway musical titled “Lil Abner,” which was comprised of 65 students, as well as live animals on stage. He is also proud of his students who have gone on to lead successful lives, many of them producing their own musical CDs and earning income due to their musical talent. Married with three sons, Mr. Spradley’s oldest son is a choir director at Spring Valley High School. He is going to take his choirs to the Universal Orlando Nationwide Choir Contest in Spring 2019 with Mr. Spradley as his choir sponsor.
