Karen W. Mahan, MEd, Superintendent and Executive Director at Lorain Digital Academy, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Executives for dedication, achievements, and leadership in academic administration.
Drawing upon more than 35 years of professional experience, Ms. Mahan is a distinguished figure in the realm of education who commenced her career as intern in school psychology in Wood County, OH, from 1981 to 1982. She then went on to become an early identification coordinator at the Children’s Resource Center from 1982 to 1984 and a longtime school psychologist at Lorain City Schools from 1984 to 1999. During this time, she was also an adjunct professor at Ashland University from 1995 to 1999. From 1999 to 2010, she subsequently served as an administrator at Lorain City Schools. Ms. Mahan has been a consultant in her field since 2010 and an administrator at Lorain Digital Academy since 2015.
Equally passionate about her community and serving as an advocate for mental health reform, Ms. Mahan was a former board member of the Volunteer Action Center in Lorain County, OH, and the former chair of the Child Abuse and Neglect Advisory Board. She has authored myriad articles on mental health issues in the Bowling Green Sentinel since 1983. Throughout her career, she has also maintained affiliation with the American Association of University Women and the Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development.
Ms. Mahan holds a Bachelor of Arts in psychology and Afro-American studies and a Master of Education in school psychology from Bowling Green State University, which she earned in 1980 and 1981, respectively. As a testament to her professional success, she has been listed in Who’s Who in Business, Who’s Who of Professional Women, Who’s Who in Education, and Cambridge Who’s Who. The recipient of a Distinguished Service Award, she has further been named a Kentucky Colonel and one of Outstanding Young Women.
