Linda Williams McCune, Instructor at Greenville Technical College, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Educators for dedication, achievements, and leadership in arts instruction.
Following obtaining a Bachelor of Fine Arts from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville in 1974, Ms. McCune continued her education with a Master of Fine Arts from the University of South Carolina in Columbia in 1982. She excelled as an artist-illustrator with the University of Tennessee from 1970 to 1972, during which time she also served as an art history commentator for Station WSJK-TV Knoxville. Between 1971 and 1978, Ms. McCune prospered as an artistic designer for the Morristown, Tennessee Theatre Guild, artist in residence with the Morristown City School Systems and assistant professor of art with Walters State Community College.
While prospering as co-owner of the Upstairs Gallery in Morristown and Studio III Frame Shop in Allendale, Ms. McCune served as an art consultant with the Allendale County School Systems from 1979 to 1980 and as a graduate assistant with the University South Carolina. She then provided superior service as director of the Summer Art Series for Youth in Tryon, North Carolina and artist in residence with the South Carolina Arts Commission Residency Program in Columbia from 1987 to 1989,
Ms. McCune began her lengthy association with Greenville Technical College in 1989 as a part-time instructor, teaching Greenville Tech’s only section of art history appreciation, with her responsibilities expanding as tech added classes in drawing, painting, and design. She became a full-time faculty member in 1995 when the Department of Visual Arts moved to a dedicated space on the newly constructed Greer campus. Currently, she holds the titles of academic program director and lead professor of fine arts and art education for the Department of Visual Arts.
For her numerous accomplishments as an educator, Ms. McCune has been named Greenville Technical College’s Professor of the Year. She has also been the recipient of the South Carolina Governors Award for Distinguished Professorship and the Carl Blair Award for Commitment to Arts Education in 2019. In addition, in what she considers a career highlight, she was awarded the National NISOD Award at the University of Texas, among many other accolades during her lengthy career. In addition, Ms. McCune has captured the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award and has been selected for inclusion in Marquis Who’s Who Top Professionals.
In the coming years, Ms. McCune would like to have at least one solo show and six group shows each year, spend more time with her grandchildren, care for her husband, be in the collection of the Woman’s Museum in Washington, return to teaching and write a book.
