Dr. Ikar J. Kalogjera, Psychiatrist and Educator at the Medical College of Wisconsin, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Educators for dedication, achievements, and leadership in child psychiatry.
Dr. Kalogjera has always known he wanted to be a psychiatrist, specifically since the age of 15. He started on his path towards his career by earning a Doctor of Medicine from the University of Zagreb in Croatia in 1970. He then interned at the University of Zagreb from 1970 to 1971 and took a residency in psychiatry at the Medical College of Wisconsin in 1972 for two years. Continuing with his education, he became a fellow in child and adult psychiatry with the University of Cincinnati from 1974 to 1976. Upon completion of his education, he became certified in psychiatry and child psychiatry by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology, Inc. and certified by the American Board of Addiction Medicine.
Dr. Kalogjera attributes his success to his compassion and dedication to the field. He has never cut corners, no matter how hard it is. He commenced his career in 1976 as a psychiatrist in private practice, remaining until 1979. He then became the director of the Adolescent In-patient Unit at the Medical College of Wisconsin for the following year. In 1980, he moved up to director of Adolescent In-patient Service at the Medical College of Wisconsin. Since 1981, he has excelled as a psychiatrist at Ikar J. Kalogjera, MD, SC, Adult Child and Adolescent Psychiatry. He also held the position of associate clinical professor of psychiatry at the Medical College of Wisconsin from 1987 to 2001. He then moved up to clinical professor of psychiatry in 2001, holding the position until 2020. Since 1991, he has been the founder and leader of the Milwaukee Group for the Advancement of Self-Psychology.
As a testament to his success, Dr. Kalogjera has received myriad awards, including a Patient’s Choice Award and Compassionate Doctor Award, both from 2020. He was also the recipient of the On Time Doctor Award in 2014 and from 2016 to 2020, the Golden Apple Teaching Award from the Department of Psychiatry at the Medical College of Wisconsin in 1996 and 2000. In addition, the school also granted him the Award for Excellence in Teaching, Child & Adolescent Psychiatry in 1992 and 2010 and the Give a Damn Award from the Department of Psychiatry in 1991 and 2003, among others. Notably, Dr. Kalogjera is also listed in numerous editions of Who’s Who in the World, Who’s Who in Science and Engineering, Who’s Who in Medicine and Healthcare and Who’s Who in America.
