Gregory P. Neff, Professor Emeritus at Purdue University Northwest, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Educators for dedication, achievements, and leadership in mechanical engineering and higher education.

Amassing nearly 50 years of professional experience in the fields of mechanical engineering and higher education, Mr. Neff is currently a professor emeritus at Purdue University Northwest, where he formerly worked as a professor from 2003 to 2017. Prior to this appointment, he served the university as an associate professor and assistant professor between 1984 and 2003 and a guest lecturer from 1982 to 1983. Likewise, he was an instructor in the science department of Lansing Community College from 1976 to 1982, a teaching fellow in the physics department of the University of Michigan in 1973, and a research assistant in the Cyclotron Laboratory at the University of Michigan from 1968 to 1972.

Alongside his primary endeavors, Mr. Neff has been the co-principal investigator of the ATE Award at the National Science Foundation in 2010 and co-principal investigator of the CCLI Award at the National Science Foundation in 2009. A former member & alternate member of the Technology Accreditation Commission from 2003 to 2006, he was also a visiting team chair of the commission from 2003 to 2006 and program evaluator from 1996 to 2003. Earlier in his career, he was a consultant for the Inland Steel Company from 1984 to 1986. Locally, he was previously the chair of the non-motorized advisory council at the Michigan Department of Transportation from 1982 to 1983, a member of the Tri-County Regional Planning Commission from 1978 to 1980, and elected to the Ingham County (Michigan) Board of Commissioners from 1977 to 1980 (democratic party).

To prepare for his illustrious career, Mr. Neff pursued a formal education at the University of Michigan, where he earned a Bachelor of Science in physics, a Master of Arts in mathematics, and a Master of Science in physics in 1964, 1966, and 1967, respectively. After obtaining some hands-on experience in the field, he received a Master of Science in mechanical engineering from Michigan State University in 1982. He is a certified manufacturing technologist, certified manufacturing engineer, and registered professional engineer in the State of Indiana.

A contributor of articles to professional journals, Mr. Neff has maintained affiliation with several professional organizations, including the American Society of Mechanical Engineers, where he was on the committee on technical accreditation, a webmaster, on the board of engineering education, chair, vice chair, secretary of the mechanical engineering technology department heads committee, and lifetime member. In addition, he has been on the board of directors of Chapter 112 of the Society of Manufacturing Engineers since 1986, having previously been a webmaster from 1999 to 2004, and life member. He remains associated with the American Society for Engineering Education as a life member, the American Society of Heating, Refrigerating, and Air Conditioning Engineers and the Order of the Engineer, among others.

In recognition of his exceptional contributions to education and engineering, Mr. Neff has accrued several accolades during the course of his impressive career. The recipient of a Merl K. Miller Award and an Appreciation Award from the American Society for Engineering Education in 1994 and 2013, respectively, he was also given two Appreciation Awards from the Society of Manufacturing Engineers in 1990 and 1992. In addition, the Society of Manufacturing Engineers honored him with the Outstanding Faculty Advisor Award in 1991. He was initiated as an honorary member of Tau Alpha Pi Engineering Technology honorary society where he served as a chapter advisor.

A life member, Mr. Neff served as regional vice-president for Indiana & Michigan of the League of American Wheelmen founded in 1880 (now League of American Bicyclists) from 1977 to 1982. He is also a life member of the American Youth Hostels, the University of Michigan Alumni Association, and the World Clown Association.
