Ms. Marino’s illustrious career spans over three decades, marked by her unwavering commitment to enhancing educational experiences for students. Since 2020, she has served as the director of curriculum at Proviso Township High School District 209 in western Cook County, Illinois. In this role, she oversees instructional resources across three high school campuses and ensures alignment with the Illinois State Board of Education standards. Ms. Marino’s efforts have led to significant advancements in curriculum renewal cycles and increased access to advanced placement courses.

Before her current position, Ms. Marino dedicated over 25 years to teaching and administrative roles in Chicago, Illinois. From 1992 to 2019, she was an experienced English language learner coordinator and teacher. Her tenure included positions such as chair of the English department and district coordinator for English and fine arts. She also served as an assistant principal and division head for English, social studies, world languages and fine arts. Ms. Marino’s early career saw her as a high school English teacher at Glenbard North High School in Carol Stream, Illinois, and John Hersey High School in Arlington Heights, Illinois.

Throughout her career in education, Ms. Marino’s passion has also been demonstrated through her additional roles as a theater director and vocal and speech coach. She has also served as a piano accompanist, helping individuals become more proficient and enhancing the overall musical experience. Moreover, Ms. Marino lent her expertise by serving as the choir director for a local high school chorus.

Ms. Marino’s academic journey began with a Bachelor of Science in secondary education of English from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign in 1992. She furthered her education with a Master of Arts in curriculum and instruction from Rockford College in Rockford, Illinois, in 1996 and a Master of Arts in theatre arts education from Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois, in 1998. Furthermore, Ms. Marino received certifications as a learning behavior specialist I from Olivet Nazarene University and K-12 administration and English as a second language from Aurora University.

Ms. Marino’s expertise in curriculum alignment with educational standards is complemented by her active involvement in professional organizations, including the Illinois Principals Association, the National Council of Teachers of English, the Curriculum Development Leadership Network, the Illinois Council for Teachers of English and, among others, the Illinois Speech and Theater Association. Her civic contributions include serving on advisory panels for transitional courses at Triton College in River Grove, Illinois, and participating in student achievement initiatives across local districts as a coach and judge for debates and through her role on the administrative team for the Student Achievement Initiative. Ms. Marino also notably authored a syllabus for campus portability.

In recognition of her hard work, Ms. Marino received a literacy implementation grant from Proviso Township High School District 209. She also received a fine arts planning grant from Saint Charles Community Unit School District 303.

Attributing her success to exceptional mentors and her dedication to lifelong learning, Ms. Marino is eager to continue inspiring future educators through volunteering and mentoring aspiring teachers. She hopes to emphasize the rewarding nature of the profession and provide her expert advice and guidance.
