Dr. Boyd-Shields possesses a robust educational background. She holds a degree in Christian studies from Biblical Seminary. She also earned a Bachelor of Science in chemistry from Alcorn State University in 1986, followed by a Master of Science in forest products in 1992 and a Doctor of Philosophy in forest products in 1998 from Mississippi State University. The comprehensive knowledge gained through these programs has been instrumental in shaping her research pursuits and pedagogical approach.

Throughout her 35-year professional journey, Dr. Boyd-Shields has been an active member of several prominent industry organizations, including the Forest Products Society, the American Chemical Society, the Society of Wood Science and Technology and the Mississippi Forestry Association. These affiliations have enabled her to remain at the forefront of advancements in her field while contributing to collaborative efforts that drive innovation and best practices within the scientific community.

Beyond her professional affiliations, Dr. Boyd-Shields is deeply engaged in civic and community initiatives. She serves as a pastor at a local church in Vicksburg, Mississippi, and is an active supporter of Scouting America and various charities and religious organizations. Dr. Boyd-Shields’s commitment to service extends beyond professional boundaries, reflecting a holistic approach to leadership and mentorship.

Dr. Boyd-Shields attributes much of her success to the influence of her uncle, an educator who mentored her during her upbringing, and to supportive colleagues who have provided ongoing guidance and leadership throughout her career.
