Mr. Fleck has become recognized for his hard work and expertise in both education and counseling, marked by two decades of dedicated service in the Somers Central School District. Since 2005, he has served as a school counselor at Somers Middle School, where he oversees a caseload of nearly 200 seventh grade students. In this capacity, Mr. Fleck has become known for his expertise in adolescent development, school counseling and college admissions.
Taking an approach that is deeply informed by his experiences working with a diverse student body, including those with Down syndrome and classical autism, these interactions have broadened Mr. Fleck’s perspective, shifting his focus from simply caring for students to actively recognizing and nurturing their interests and independence. This transformation has made him a more compassionate counselor who values the potential of every individual.
In addition to his primary role, Mr. Fleck privately consults with high school students on the college admissions process and serves as an educational consultant for both middle and high school students, a practice he began in 2015. His guidance has helped numerous families navigate the complexities of modern education, particularly as they face challenges unique to today’s digital landscape.
In 2025, Mr. Fleck expanded his professional repertoire by launching FleckKeepsBooks. This bookkeeping business allows him to leverage his QuickBooks skills to serve the local community with a range of business needs.
Earlier in his career, Mr. Fleck contributed as a counselor liaison for the Somers High School international baccalaureate program, supporting students through rigorous academic pathways and fostering global-mindedness within the school community from 2015 to 2023.
Mr. Fleck’s academic foundation includes a Bachelor of Arts in history from Haverford College, completed in 1999, and a Master of Education in counseling psychology from Columbia University, earned in 2005. He is recognized as a holder of a permanent certificate in school counseling from the New York State Education Department. Additionally, Mr. Fleck’s certifications as a QuickBooks ProAdvisor at Levels 1 and 2, and in QuickBooks Payroll, have supported his entrepreneurial pursuits outside traditional educational settings.
Beyond the school setting, Mr. Fleck’s leadership has extended to professional affiliations as a member of the Westchester Putnam Rockland Counseling Association, the New York State School Counselor Association and the New York State Association of College Admissions Counselors. He also became recognized as a state liaison from the New York State School Counselor Association to the Westchester-Putnam-Rockland Counseling Association before being elected to its board of trustees. Moreover, Mr. Fleck was twice elected to serve three-year terms as the regional governor for Westchester, Putnam and Rockland counties on the executive board of the New York State School Counselor Association. In this statewide leadership role, he facilitated professional development opportunities and represented local concerns at the state level, helping shape organizational direction and policy. His tenure provided valuable insight into the varied challenges faced by counselors across New York state, from college-readiness initiatives in Westchester to social-emotional support needs elsewhere, enabling him to advocate effectively for colleagues and students alike.
Mr. Fleck is also civically engaged as a sponsor for Guiding Eyes for the Blind. He previously served as an adviser for both the National Honor Society and the Mock Trial Club at Somers Middle School.
Looking ahead, Mr. Fleck aims to continue developing his work in education. He is committed to leveraging technology to provide college counseling services beyond the Northeast region, seeking opportunities to connect with students nationwide and globally. Additionally, Mr. Fleck envisions expanding his bookkeeping business to serve more clients.
The influence of family has been central to Mr. Fleck’s career trajectory. Both parents were counselors at different educational levels, instilling in him an early appreciation for guidance work. He also credits his supportive colleagues at both middle and high school levels for fostering an environment conducive to collaboration and student success.
Mr. Fleck hopes that his legacy will be defined by the positive influence he brought to Somers Central School District, not through physical changes but through shaping its culture with empathy and integrity. He strives to be remembered as someone who made others feel valued by listening attentively when approached, sharing humor when appropriate, and serving as a reliable resource for both students and colleagues.
