Katy Dibble, early childhood resource teacher at Durham Public Schools, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Educators for dedication, achievements, and leadership in special education.
Pursuing her passion for education from a young age, Ms. Dibble began her career in 2016 working in the food service industry. Not long after that, she was hired for her first role teaching first grade. During these early portions of her professional life, Ms. Dibble concentrated on building her essential skills, with a focus on special education. Beyond education generally, she finds particular fulfillment in providing support to students with learning needs.
With that direction in mind, Ms. Dibble took on the position of early childhood (EC) resource teacher at Durham Public Schools beginning in 2023. In this role, she provides special education support to nearly 60 schools across Durham County, North Carolina, district, serving over 31,000 students. Durham Public Schools is one of the 10 largest school districts in the state, making Ms. Dibble’s contributions invaluable to the education of hundreds of children. The district offers special education resources for a wide range of categories, including speech impairments, autism and developmental delay.
Among her daily responsibilities, Ms. Dibble takes on assignments to various schools in the district. Once she’s been assigned a school and classroom, she handles daily lectures in front of students. For her classroom instruction, Ms. Dibble emphasizes teaching reading and social skills, helping to ensure students are set up for success with future learning. Outside of teaching, she also dedicates time to preparing lessons.
Prior to embarking upon her professional journey, Ms. Dibble established a foundation for her future as a teacher, beginning with graduating from Marysville High School in 2013. After high school, she completed coursework in special education and teaching at Ursuline College. Subsequently, Ms. Dibble earned a Bachelor of Science in special education from Bowling Green State University in 2017. In 2022, she passed her Educative Teacher Performance Assessment (EDTPA), marking her as a certified teacher in the state of North Carolina, which she views as her most significant achievement so far.
Ms. Dibble has been a member of several important organizations relevant to her field. Among them, she maintains membership in the National Education Association and the Council for Exceptional Children. Ms. Dibble stays active in local chapters of multiple educator associations. These affiliations help her stay updated on cutting-edge developments within her field.
To commemorate her accomplishments, Ms. Dibble has received numerous accolades. She has been especially lauded for her civic advocacy as a member of the Girl Scouts of Ohio’s Heartland. The Girl Scouts of Ohio’s Heartland Council presented Ms. Dibble with a Bronze, Silver and Gold Award throughout her time with the organization. Additionally, she received two awards while in college.
Devoted to her family, Ms. Dibble attributes her success to the support of her father, mother and brother, the latter of whom is also a teacher. In her free time, she finds joy in watching Disney films. Looking ahead, Ms. Dibble is committed to continuing her career in special education. She has recently accepted a new assignment at Durham Public Schools and looks forward to getting to know the new facilities, colleagues and students.
