Russell Shelby Morton, PhD, Professor Emeritus at Winston-Salem State University, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Educators for dedication, achievements, and leadership in Higher Education.
Dr. Morton is a retired educator who taught higher education for over 15 years. He joined Winston-Salem State University in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, as an associate professor in 1997 and was later named a professor emeritus in 2012. His career in the field came after a successful tenure with Caterpillar Tractor Company, the world’s leader in manufacturing construction equipment, mining equipment, and other products, where he served as a shipping coordinator from 1969 to 1992.
Highly educated, Dr. Morton obtained a Master of Business Administration in information technology from the University of Colorado in Denver in 1989. Subsequently accepted to the University of Kentucky in Lexington, he garnered a Doctor of Philosophy in management information systems in 1996. Grateful for his education, Dr. Morton’s follow-through in achieving his doctorate was a career highlight for him and an accomplishment he had never dreamed he would achieve in his lifetime.
Besides his work-related endeavors, Dr. Morton has been affiliated with the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation. He also enjoys traveling with his wife, where he advocates for and encourages schoolchildren worldwide and assists individuals in need with various tasks, such as home improvement. In light of his success, Dr. Morton was honored with the University of SE Teaching Award. His expertise in information systems, computers and business has been instrumental in his career success. He also notes his passion for helping others achieve their own successes.
