Joy Don Baker, PhD, clinical professor at the University of Texas at Arlington, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Educators for dedication, achievements, and leadership in nursing and higher education.
Dr. Baker is distinguished for her background in health care and higher education, with a career spanning over 45 years as a perioperative nurse. Her expertise has earned her numerous roles, beginning as a staff nurse and working her way into various administrative positions for facilities in Florida, West Virginia, Georgia, Texas and Oklahoma. Additionally, Dr. Baker has garnered academic success as a clinical professor at the University of Texas at Arlington, beginning in 2000, where she has taught and mentored hundreds of students and drew significant fulfillment in preparing them for their future.
Besides her field and classroom experience, Dr. Baker co-founded DuoPen Enterprise, where she continues contributing as a writer. She co-authored the “Nurseketeers Series,” a fictional series about four nursing students navigating their education in the 1970s, and “A, B, and Cs of Author Partnering.” Both books have notably been adopted as textbooks for one of her courses. Dr. Baker plans to continue collaborating with Dr. Terri Goodman, her business partner and fellow nurse, by expanding the series and possibly trilogies. They are also eager to produce a second edition of “The A, B, and Cs of Author Partnering” soon.
Having initially earned a Bachelor of Science in nursing from Oklahoma Baptist University and a Master of Science in nursing from Oklahoma University, Dr. Baker continued her studies, earning a Master of Arts and Master of Business Administration from Nova University and a Doctor of Philosophy in human and organizational systems from Fielding Graduate University. She also became an elected fellow of the American Academy of Nursing and the Association of Perioperative Registered Nurses and a member of the American Nurses Association, which allowed her to remain abreast of industry trends and professional standards. Furthermore, for over five years, Dr. Baker served as the editor-in-chief for the professional journal of the Association of PeriOperative Registered Nurses. Receiving numerous accolades for her successful tenure as a nurse and writer, she has also had the opportunity to speak at local and national conferences in various countries, such as Japan and Australia, highlighting her career success.
