Jim Woolums, PhD, EdD, director of the College for Technical Education, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Educators for dedication, achievements, and leadership in education.

As the director of the College for Technical Education, Dr. Woolums oversees all administrative aspects, including marketing, hiring and curriculum development for the college. From a young age, he aspired to become an educator and a pastor. The youngest of three children, he looked up to his two older sisters, both schoolteachers, and sought to have the same kind of influence through education. He has been teaching for over four decades and remains passionate about the field. He received his own education at Asbury University, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts in Christian education in 1981. Moving on to Asbury Theological Seminary, he earned a Master of Arts in religion in 1985. Returning to school in 1995, he pursued a Doctor of Education at Spalding University, graduating in 2004, followed by a Doctor of Philosophy in organizational leadership at Northcentral University, graduating in 2014.

Beginning his career as a pastor at Lexington First Baptist Church in 1988, Dr. Woolums gathered experience in ministry before transitioning to a teaching pastor role at Erlanger Baptist Church in 2003. He continued serving as a teaching pastor at Burlington Baptist Church, graduating to head of the church’s ministry of strategy in 2009. During this time, he served as assistant to the vice president of regional campus development and as an assistant professor of Christian studies and leadership at Campbellsville University from 2002 to 2014. Handling multiple teaching roles, he also served as an adjunct professor at Indiana Wesleyan University from 2002 to 2019, when he founded EXD Exponential Discipleism. Since 2022, he has overseen the operations at the College for Technical Education.

Reflecting on his accomplishments, Dr. Woolums considers the highlight of his career to be presenting diplomas to his two daughters at their college graduation, standing as a professor alongside the college president during the ceremony. In addition, he had the honor of presenting his eldest daughter with both her bachelor’s and master’s diplomas. He is proud to have built deep, meaningful connections with his students, mentees and clients, with these relationships highlighting his dedication to understanding and fostering the growth and development of those he works with. Moving forward, he plans to continue his work in education and ministry, striving to remain a listener rather than a speaker, as he believes exceptional listeners possess the potential to become outstanding leaders and creators of culture.
