Nancy D. Spector, MD, Senior Vice Dean of Faculty and Executive Director of Executive Leadership in Academic Medicine and Executive Leadership in Health Care Programs at Drexel University College of Medicine, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Educators for dedication, achievements, and leadership in science and medicine.

With three decades of experience to her credit, Ms. Spector has built a successful career in medicine and science, specializing in advancing the workforce, particularly women and underrepresented minorities in the field of medicine. She currently serves as executive director of executive leadership in academic medicine and executive leadership in health care programs at Drexel University College of Medicine, a role she has held since 2022, and as a professor at Drexel University College of Medicine since 2010. Her responsibilities include overseeing faculty in medical school and ensuring excellence in teaching, research, scholarship, and clinical expertise to help medical students advance in their careers. She also leads a national and international leadership program for women in medicine. Her experience includes serving as vice dean of faculty at Drexel University College of Medicine from 2020 to 2022, and associate dean of faculty development from 2015 to 2020. She has been the executive director of Executive Leadership in Health Care since 2022, executive director of Executive Leadership in Academic Medicine since 2016, and associate director from 2015 to 2016. Additionally, she has contributed articles to various research journals throughout her career.

Ms. Spector dedicates her time to the Association of Pediatric Program Directors’ Life Program Advisory Committee and has been a member of the American Pediatric Society since 2014. She serves as chair of the executive council at the I-PASS Patient Safety Institute and on the education and training committee of the American Board of Pediatrics, roles she has held since 2014. She previously co-chaired the mentorship program and chaired the faculty and professional development task force for the Association of Pediatric Program Directors. Additionally, she served on the Federation of Pediatrics Organizations’ Task Force on Women in Pediatrics and held leadership roles in various committees from 2006 to 2011. She is also involved with the Gender Equity in Medicine and Science Alliance, the Society for Pediatric Research, and volunteers for The LAM Foundation. Since 2022, she has held the prestigious Betty A. Cohen Chair in Women’s Health at Drexel University College of Medicine. Laying a solid educational foundation, she earned a Bachelor of Arts in biology from Brown University in 1986 and a Doctor of Medicine from the University of Massachusetts Medical School in 1990. She completed a fellowship in pediatrics at St. Christopher’s Hospital for Children and a fellowship in Executive Leadership in Academic Medicine in 2010. Additionally, she holds advanced training certificates in leadership and faculty development from the Association of American Medical Colleges and the Harvard Macy Institute.

Ms. Spector has received numerous honors throughout her career, including the AAMC Group on Women in Medicine and Science Leadership Award, SheForShe Award, and Elizabeth Bingham Award, all in 2020. She was also recognized with the John M. Eisenberg National Patient Safety and Quality Award and the Advancement of Safety and Pediatric Hospital Medicine Quality Award. Her innovative work earned her the Cox Prize and finalist position in the 2015 Harvard Health Acceleration Challenge. Additional accolades include the Miller Sarkin Mentoring Award, Elias Abrutyn Mentoring Award, and Robert S. Holm Award. A member of the Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honor Society, Ms. Spector credits her success to her family’s support and key mentors. In the coming years, she aims to enhance program stability and develop initiatives that support women and underrepresented individuals in medicine, helping them reach leadership roles.
