Michael Connolly, CCNA, Professor at College of Southern Nevada, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Educators for dedication, achievements, and leadership in computing education.
With many years of experience to his credit, Mr. Connolly currently excels as a valued professor of computing and information technology at the College of Southern Nevada, an esteemed institution of higher learning in the Greater Las Vegas area that offers flexible and affordable courses in information technology. In this position, which he has held since 1999, he primarily focuses on teaching CISCO networking and system networking as well as personal computer repair. Mr. Connolly believes his work in this role to be his professional highlight, as it provides him with the opportunity to observe and participate in the development of young minds as they go forth to become successful individuals.
In addition to this post, Mr. Connolly has proven himself to be a versatile and effective figure in multiple fields, having worked as a support technician, a programmer, an electronic technician, and a substitute teacher earlier in his career. Moreover, he completed four years of service to his country through his enlistment with the U.S. Air Force. Outside of his primary endeavors, Mr. Connolly showcases his creative talents by contributing to his local theater as a director for multiple musical productions.
Prior to embarking upon his professional path, Mr. Connolly pursued an education at the University of Nevada-Las Vegas, from which he graduated with a Bachelor of Science in physics in 1972. He subsequently refined his skills with certifications from CISCO Systems, including as a CISCO Certified Network Associate and as an Instructor with 20 Years of Service in 2018. In 2024, he further completed CISCO Systems courses such as “Introduction to Cybersecurity,” “Career Preparation Workshop,” “Introduction to Data Science,” and “Network Addressing and Basic Troubleshooting. Mr. Connolly also completed additional training through QM Quality Matters in 2015 and the Western Academy Support and Training Center, which supports CISCO Academies and ICT educators across the Western United States, in 2021 and 2023.
Beyond these accomplishments, Mr. Connolly has proudly maintained his affiliation with The American Legion, the largest wartime veterans service organization in the United States, for 50 years. As a testament to his outstanding participation in the aforementioned organization, he had been previously honored as the Adjutant of the Year. He also provides his time and resources to the College of Southern Nevada as a member of the faculty senate. Notably, Mr. Connolly was celebrated by the College of Southern Nevada as the Teacher of the Year.
Mr. Connolly has attributed his success to his open-minded approach to new ideas, as he frequently incorporates these ideas into his curriculum in order to enhance his students’ understanding and knowledge. Looking toward the future, he hopes to cement his legacy at the College of Southern Nevada as he continues to foster the minds of the next generation of computer science professionals. Likewise, Mr. Connolly aims to establish a digital monitoring system that can be implemented across various devices, through which he can observe the impact of shutting down its central computer hub and offer practical engagement opportunities for his students.
