He began his career as a production coordinator at Reinforced Earth USA in 1989. He worked as a visiting assistant professor of management at Marquette University from 1993 to 1994.
Dr. Sodeman continued his career as a certification manager at ProsoftTraining.com from 1997 to 2001. At Akahi Services, Inc., he contributed as chief information officer from 2006 to 2010. Between 1993 and 2024, he taught at the University of Southern Indiana, the Hawaii Pacific University, Martin Methodist College, the University of North Alabama, Walden University, the University of Alabama in Huntsville, and Clark University.
Before embarking on his professional path, Dr. Sodeman pursued an education at William and Mary, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts in fine arts in 1986. He continued his academic efforts at Rollins College, obtaining a Master of Business Administration in 1988. He concluded his studies at the C. Herman and Mary Virginia Terry College of Business at the University of Georgia, graduating with a PhD in business administration and management in 1993.
In addition to his primary vocation, Dr. Sodeman remains affiliated with various organizations in relation to his areas of expertise. He was a member of the Association for Talent Development, the Society for Human Resource Management, the Academy of Management, and the OnCon Senior Council at OnConferences. In light of his impressive undertakings, he has accrued several accolades throughout his career. He was recognized as one of the top learning and development professionals globally by OnCon in 2022, 2023, and 2024.
