David Edward King, Program Coordinator and Associate Professor of Aviation and the UAS Management program at the University of Louisiana at Monroe, College of Business and Social Sciences, Management and Aviation, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Educators for dedication, achievements, and leadership in higher education and aviation.
With 47 years of experience to his credit, Mr. King has excelled as program coordinator and associate professor of Aviation and the UAS Management Program at the University of Louisiana at Monroe since 2011. He began his career in aviation with Northrop Worldwide Aircraft Services at Vance Air Force Base in Enid, Oklahoma from 1978 to 1981 as a civilian worker. At the Southern Aviation Corporation, he established himself as a certified flight instructor, charter pilot, and ground instructor from 1982 to 1985. He contributed as a Gold Seal certified flight instructor and chief ground instructor at Arkansas West Airlines from 1985 to 1986, Cam-Air International Flight Training from 1987 to 1988, and Bolivar Aviation International School of Aeronautics from 1989 to 1990.
Mr. King continued his career as an air traffic control specialist with the Department of Transportation and the Federal Aviation Administration in 1990 at the Mike Monroney Aeronautical Center Academy. He garnered a stellar reputation as an assistant chief flight instructor at Louisiana Tech University from 1991 to 1995. He found success as department head, associate professor of aviation, and chief flight instructor at Northwestern State University of Louisiana from 1996 to 2011.
Before embarking on his professional path, Mr. King pursued an education at Jesuit High School in Shreveport, Louisiana, Louisiana Tech University where he earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Professional Aviation, minoring in English, where he obtained all of his FAA airplane pilot certificates and ratings in 1982, and a Master of Arts in Industrial and Organizational Psychology in 1997 from Louisiana Tech University. He holds nine certifications and endorsements from the Federal Aviation Administration, the Transportation Security Administration, and the Federal Communications Commission. In addition to his primary vocation, he remains affiliated with various organizations in relation to his areas of expertise. He held executive and leadership roles at the National Society of the Sons of the American Revolution as a Compatriot, Alpha Eta Rho International Aviation Fraternity, the Northwestern State University Flight Team, the University of Louisiana at Monroe Flight Team and the National Intercollegiate Flying Association Region IV. He took 2 teams to National competition with 17 Regional competitions completed as faculty advisor. In the year 2000 he volunteered his University to host the Region IV NIFA SAFECON.
In light of his impressive undertakings, Mr. King has accrued several accolades throughout his career. He was selected for inclusion in multiple editions of Marquis Who’s Who Top Educator, Global Register’s Who’s Who in Executives and Professionals 2006-2007 edition, Cambridge Who’s Who Registry of Executives and Professionals 2007-2008 edition, and was presented with the Governor’s Award by the State of Louisiana’s Executive Branch in 1993 for outstanding service to the university. In the immediate future, he intends to continue teaching in higher education.
