Joseph S. McQueen, MEd, Director of Alternative Education at Henderson-Mercer-Warren Regional Office of Education, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Educators for dedication, achievements, and leadership in special education.
Mr. McQueen is a distinguished professional who has dedicated his career to helping children with mental and emotional issues. Having been labeled as a delinquent and diagnosed with Oppositional Defiant Disorder and Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, he was given a chance by a friendly judge and entered the United States Navy in 1995 and served until 1999. Mr. McQueen has worked as a middle school teacher, a drug and alcohol counselor, a special education coordinator at a day school in Arizona, and as the director of education at a residential treatment center. He presently acts as the director of alternative education for the Henderson-Mercer-Warren Regional Office of Education and owner of Therapeutic Perspectives, LLC., where he also contributes his expertise as an author and speaker.
Attributing his success to his tenacity, Mr. McQueen utilized this asset to earn a Bachelor of Science in Special Education and became a licensed Learning Behavioral Specialist from Illinois State University. He subsequently obtained a Master of Arts in Education, Administration, and Supervision and Educational Leadership and Administration from the University of Phoenix. He authored a book based on his teaching methods titled “Calming Young Minds: Mental Health, De-Escalation, Trauma, and Restorative Practices in Teens.” In the coming years, Mr. McQueen intends to become a full-time consultant and principal of a larger school. When he is not working, he dedicates his time and attention to watching television with his wife, playing video games, reading about teen development and trauma, cooking, and baking.
