Before joining the Bloomfield School District, Ms. LoBasso spent nearly a decade as a paraprofessional in the Fairfield Township School District from 2012 to 2021. During this period, she found deep fulfillment supporting special education students. Witnessing moments when students grasped new concepts was a source of immense pride for her. Although she ultimately left this role due to the lack of employee benefits, Ms. LoBasso continues to celebrate the progress of former students and values the impact she made during her tenure.
Before entering the field of education, Ms. LoBasso held several roles that contributed to her administrative acumen. She worked as an office assistant at a chiropractic practice after returning to the workforce following time spent raising her daughter. Earlier in her career, she served as a municipal employee for the Borough of Edgewater for just shy of 10 years, gaining experience in public service and administrative management. Ms. LoBasso’s professional journey began at ADP Inc., where she started as a check room clerk before advancing to customer service specialist roles focused on school boards and municipalities.
Ms. LoBasso’s academic foundation includes an associate degree in accounting from a local business school in New Jersey, which she completed in 1987 after an intensive 18-month full-time program. The rigorous curriculum provided her with essential skills in financial management and organization that have supported her effectiveness in various administrative roles throughout her career.
Among her professional involvements, Ms. LoBasso remains active with the Essex County Education Association as its treasurer and the Bloomfield Educational Secretaries Association as a member. Civically engaged, she has contributed significantly to charity work through volunteering with the Bloomfield Women’s Club.
Earlier in her career, Ms. LoBasso, while working in Fairfield, became the first educational support professional to serve as the president of an all-inclusive union representing teachers, custodians, secretaries and educational support professionals. This accomplishment underscored her commitment to advocacy and labor rights within the educational sector.
Notably, Ms. LoBasso’s dedication to advocacy is rooted in family influence and personal experience. Having grown up in a family deeply involved in union work, with her father serving as a business manager for the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers, her early exposure to contract negotiations and labor advocacy shaped her understanding of responsibility and public service. Lessons learned from witnessing injustice further strengthened Ms. LoBasso’s resolve to model positive change rather than merely speak about it.
Recognition for Ms. LoBasso’s contributions included being named Essex County Educational Support Professional of the Year by the New Jersey Education Association for 2025-2026. This honor was especially meaningful as it resulted from an anonymous nomination by a colleague and was supported by a letter from her principal before being confirmed through a town vote. The award highlighted Ms. LoBasso’s dedication, strong performance under pressure and unwavering commitment to supporting educational communities.
Looking ahead, Ms. LoBasso is preparing for new opportunities within labor advocacy. She is currently considering advancing within her local union or at higher levels, such as the New Jersey Education Association. Ms. LoBasso remains committed to strengthening educational communities through collaboration and effective leadership.
