Since 2009, Ms. Grisco has served as a substitute teacher with Hamilton County Educational Service Center, a consortium supporting numerous schools throughout the county. She also teaches at Cincinnati Public Schools and various private institutions, including Catholic and Lutheran schools, adapting to the needs of each district on an as-needed basis. In addition to her educational roles, Ms. Grisco has contributed professionally as an operator of a cleaning business for approximately 20 years, beginning in the mid-1990s. This venture grew from informal beginnings into a steady source of work managed alongside family commitments. Earlier still, from 1977 to 1994, Ms. Grisco was a master cobbler, the third generation in her family trade. For more than 15 years, she managed shop operations independently during peak periods before transitioning away from full-time cobbling when the family business was sold.
Ms. Grisco’s academic background laid a strong foundation for her multifaceted career. She earned a bachelor’s degree in health and wellness from Antioch University in Yellow Springs, Ohio, in 2008 after completing coursework at Sinclair College in Dayton, Ohio, and early childhood education studies at Cincinnati State Technical and Community College. Ms. Grisco also holds several professional certifications that have enhanced her expertise across disciplines, including a K-12 teaching certification qualifying her to teach any grade level, a certified dietary manager designation, a certified food protection professional credential obtained through Sinclair College, and a ServSafe certification emphasizing food safety protocols essential for managing large-scale food service operations.
As a successful writer and author, Ms. Grisco maintains memberships in organizations such as the West Virginia Storytelling Guild, the Ohio Storytelling Network, the Kentucky Storytelling Association, the Appalachian Authors Guild and the Longmont Spellbinders (now St. Vrain Valley Storytellers). Through these affiliations, she attends conferences to perform and learn from fellow storytellers. Ms. Grisco is also civically engaged as a volunteer with the Freestore Foodbank in Cincinnati and at local public libraries, efforts that reflect her commitment to supporting community well-being beyond formal employment.
Ms. Grisco’s passion for storytelling led her to write children’s books tailored for readers aged 7 to 14, those who have outgrown picture books but are not yet ready for heavier chapter books. Her creative achievements include five published children’s books available on Amazon and at local libraries, including the Cincinnati & Hamilton County Public Library and Greene County Public Libraries. Ms. Grisco’s decision to begin writing began while working as an in-home tutor for a medically fragile student. Frustrated by uninspiring curriculum materials, she collaborated with the student’s mother, a professional artist, to create more engaging stories. This partnership resulted in the following books: “Strawberries of the Road,” “REPO Santa,” “Neverending Everlasting Tales,” “Summer Adventures at Aunt Mabel’s Farm” and “Moms Get Tired Too.” Ms. Grisco’s sixth book, “Life on a Line,” explores narrative without characters using only the imagery of a clothesline.
Throughout her career, Ms. Grisco has credited her success to lifelong learning and an active mind that is always seeking new challenges. She attributes much of her growth as an educator to mentors whose practical advice helped her navigate classroom complexities beyond what textbooks could provide. Drawing lessons from both positive examples and cautionary tales among colleagues has shaped Ms. Grisco’s adaptable approach.
Looking ahead, Ms. Grisco envisions dedicating more time to writing and storytelling. She aims to travel more widely, sharing stories with audiences young and old, often volunteering simply for the joy it brings, and hopes one day to grow a prize-winning tomato for the state fair alongside expanding her literary contributions. Ms. Grisco hopes to be remembered as an influential teacher who brought productivity-focused learning into every classroom she entered. Her enduring philosophy centers on curiosity as the key to lifelong growth, ensuring that both she and those around her never stop learning or striving for excellence within their chosen paths.
