Pakesta C. Washington, MSN, Professional Nurse Educator at Washington Elite Nursing Consultants, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Educators for dedication, achievements and leadership in Nursing Education.

Ms. Washington has established a distinguished career in nursing education and mental health advocacy, marked by her expertise and commitment to advancing the profession. Since 2023, she has served as a professional nurse educator at Washington Elite Nursing Consultants in Knoxville, Tennessee, where she delivers didactic instruction, provides individualized nursing tutoring and facilitates hands-on clinical skills education. Ms. Washington’s responsibilities include skills validation, exam preparation, student mentoring and the integration of mental health concepts to support safe, competent nursing practice. She also provides leadership in academic planning, curriculum oversight and instructional quality while mentoring faculty and educators in teaching strategies and professional development.

Through her work, Ms. Washington leads initiatives focused on student retention, progression and success, supports program evaluation and outcomes assessment, and collaborates with academic leadership to align educational goals with institutional missions. She is also recognized for promoting inclusive, student-centered learning environments.

Ms. Washington’s expertise encompasses nursing tutoring and academic support, clinical nursing skills instruction, didactic nursing education, skills lab instruction and competency validation, as well as NCLEX and HESI preparation. She is highly skilled in medication administration and safety, patient assessment and clinical reasoning, mental health education in nursing, and simulation and case-based learning.

In addition to her primary role, Ms. Washington is a dedicated mental health advocate, a commitment she has maintained since 2010. Drawing from her lived experience with bipolar disorder, she engages in professional speaking and educational presentations that focus on mental illness, stigma reduction and mental health advocacy. Ms. Washington’s ability to connect with audiences through open mics and college presentations has been a source of pride because students frequently approach her after readings to share their own experiences or those of loved ones affected by bipolar disorder. This connection underscores her impact in reducing stigma and fostering understanding within academic, health care and community settings.

From 2019 to 2024, Ms. Washington contributed as an adjunct professor at a local community college in Knoxville. During this tenure, employment restrictions prevented her from tutoring or mentoring students directly through the institution. In response, she chose not to renew adjunct contracts and instead established her own nursing tutoring program. Through this initiative, Ms. Washington tutors nursing students independently, offers motivational speaking focused on mental health awareness, and provides special rates for single mothers seeking educational support and mentorship.

Ms. Washington’s academic achievements have played a pivotal role in shaping her career trajectory. Her foundational training began with an associate degree in nursing from Lincoln Memorial University in Harrogate, Tennessee, in 2010. Subsequently, she received a bachelor’s degree in nursing in 2014 and a master’s degree in nursing education in 2019 at King University in Bristol, Tennessee. These credentials have enabled her to excel as an educator and mentor while supporting the next generation of nurses. Ms. Washington also holds several certifications that further distinguish her expertise as a medical X-ray technologist and cardiovascular technologist, in electrocardiogram interpretation, intravenous therapy, advanced cardiovascular life support, mechanical ventilation and tracheostomy.

Among her professional affiliations, Ms. Washington is a member of the National Alliance on Mental Illness and the American Heart Association. These organizations reflect her dedication to both nursing excellence and mental health advocacy. Civically engaged, Ms. Washington volunteers as a mentor providing academic support and tutoring to single mothers enrolled in nursing programs. She assists students with course content, study strategies, and access to educational resources, and supports their mental health by connecting them with coping strategies and wellness resources. Additionally, Ms. Washington serves as a mentor for faculty members living with mental illness and advocates for emotional wellness within academic and health care communities.

Ms. Washington’s accomplishments have been recognized with a nomination for Top Nurse by World Wide Leaders in Healthcare through the International Nursing Association in Knoxville. She attributes her success to her love of reading, but she primarily credits her oldest son for inspiring her pursuit of higher education at a young age.

Throughout her career, Ms. Washington has demonstrated unwavering dedication to advancing nursing education while championing mental health awareness. These qualities continue to define her contributions to the field and inspire those around her. Looking ahead, Ms. Washington envisions acquiring a house that can be converted into a dedicated tutoring space for students. In this welcoming environment, learners can study comfortably across different rooms with access to kitchen facilities for meal preparation. Ms. Washington’s goal is to offer affordable tutoring services designed to provide robust support for students navigating their studies while creating a haven away from traditional settings, such as coffee shops.
