Mr. Adams has established a distinguished career marked by significant achievements in both the financial services sector and education. Since 2019, he has been teaching for the Syracuse City School District in Syracuse, New York, where he instructs high school students in social studies, including ninth and 10th grade global history, 11th grade U.S. history, and 12th grade government and economics. In this capacity, Mr. Adams also facilitates career and technical education programs, assists students in preparing for required exit exams and teaches summer school. His commitment to student success is further demonstrated by his efforts to help learners meet graduation requirements.
Before his teaching appointment in Syracuse, Mr. Adams taught in Japan with the Saiki City Board of Education from 2014 to 2018. There, he contributed to English language instruction and supported local educational initiatives, drawing on his international experience to enrich the classroom environment.
Mr. Adams’s teaching career began to take shape after spending nearly two decades in the corporate sector. He most recently joined Nomura Securities as the head of the Singapore middle office. During his tenure through 2012, he managed operational functions critical to the firm’s regional activities.
From 2009 to 2011, Mr. Adams was the director at Global Markets Consultants in Tokyo, Japan. His expertise in market infrastructure was previously demonstrated during his time as the head of market operations at LCH.Clearnet in New York City between 2008 and 2009.
Earlier, Mr. Adams founded and managed a hedge fund as head of operations at Sanno Point Capital Management in New York from 2004 to 2008. As the head of operations in Japan, Mr. Adams led a team of 100 employees with a $30 million budget supporting approximately $500 million in revenue. He subsequently became the head of client operations for Deutsche Bank Americas, overseeing a staff of 50 and managing operations for a significantly larger organization while interfacing with major clients, including investment managers and endowments.
Mr. Adams’s transition into education was motivated by nearly two decades spent within the financial services industry. After beginning his career at JPMorgan in New York in 1993, focusing on derivative operations, he advanced through increasingly senior roles before, during the 2012 financial crisis, deciding to pursue teaching, a field for which he was qualified and found personally rewarding.
Mr. Adams’ academic credentials include a bachelor’s degree in economics from the University at Albany, completed in 1993, a Master of Science in lean manufacturing from Kettering University, awarded in 2018, and a Master of Arts in teaching from New York University, earned in 2020. During his early studies, Mr. Adams was a co-op student at the Lincoln Institute of Land Policy from 1988 to 1993. He has also pursued ongoing professional development through several certificates, including leadership development program management from Macquarie Graduate School of Management, the CORe Credential of Readiness from Harvard Business School Online and The Science of Reading Fundamentals for New York Educators from the State University of New York, New Paltz.
Beyond his professional achievements, Mr. Adams has demonstrated a strong commitment to civic engagement and community service. He volunteers at the Samaritan Center and for financial literacy initiatives at high schools throughout New York City, and is involved in fundraising for organizations such as The Fresh Air Fund and City Harvest. Mr. Adams’s contributions to various causes date back 30 years.
In recognition of his dedication to education, Mr. Adams received an Educator Award from Lincoln Middle School in 2020. He attributes his success to the breadth of his experiences working across Boston, New York, Tokyo and Singapore with diverse teams and communities. This global perspective has provided him with valuable insights that have informed both his teaching practice and leadership style.
