Before being hired by Mastery Charter School, Mr. Asaye worked at Ascend Charter Schools in Brooklyn, New York, from 2023 to 2025, where he also served as a science teacher. In 2023, he also began serving as a grade team student services lead at Ascend Schools, where he has played a pivotal role in supporting student achievement and well-being.
Earlier, Mr. Asaye demonstrated his educational excellence at Success Academy Charter Schools in New York, where he served as a STEM teacher for over five years. He notably achieved a remarkable milestone during this tenure, where his students attained an average pass rate of 99.5% on the New York State Regents Examination in Living Environment. These students passed the exam, typically required for high school graduation, while still in the eighth grade, underscoring his effectiveness as an educator and mentor.
Mr. Asaye spent three previous years at Great Oaks Charter School in Bridgeport, Connecticut, where he laid the foundation for his teaching philosophy and instructional approach. Throughout his professional journey, he has been recognized for his dedication to fostering academic growth and empowering students from diverse backgrounds.
Beyond the classroom, Mr. Asaye has maintained a long-standing entrepreneurial endeavor as an independent tutor since adolescence, initially assisting family members and friends, particularly younger students, in STEM subjects and Spanish. This initiative has continued throughout his career, further demonstrating his passion for education and mentorship.
Mr. Asaye’s academic background has been both comprehensive and influential in shaping his teaching career. His undergraduate studies culminated in a Bachelor of Science in environmental science with an emphasis in biology and a minor in Spanish from Northern Arizona University in 2012. He also holds a Master of Arts in education for secondary science from Relay Graduate School of Education in Connecticut and a second master’s degree in environmental science with an emphasis in health and management from the University of New Haven in New Haven, Connecticut.
Mr. Asaye is an active member of the National Education Association, demonstrating his commitment to professional development and advocacy in education. His involvement with this organization underscores his dedication to advancing educational standards and supporting fellow educators. Civic engagement is equally important to Mr. Asaye. He serves on the board of Aspires West Pasadena and supports organizations such as Friends Indeed and Goodwill Industries International. Meanwhile, his volunteer work includes contributions to local food pantries and active participation in church and community events.
In recognition of his positive influence on youth, Mr. Asaye was honored as Aspires West Pasadena’s Role Model of the Year in 2023. He attributes his success to an unwavering drive for excellence and a strong work ethic instilled by his family. Growing up surrounded by relatives who were professors and educators inspired him to pursue knowledge not only as an academic pursuit but as a means of personal empowerment and societal advancement.
Mr. Asaye remains committed to continuous improvement and strives to impart these values to each generation of students under his guidance. He aspires to earn a doctorate with potential focus areas including environmental science, environmental policy or education. He is also dedicated to founding a nonprofit organization to provide clean water and reliable electricity to families in Ethiopia. Mr. Asaye’s career reflects both professional achievement and a profound commitment to service, lifelong learning and community empowerment.
