Since 2004, he has served as a professor of finance in the Graham School of Management at Saint Xavier University in Chicago, where he is recognized for his expertise in teaching and curriculum development. In this capacity, Dr. Hoque conducts research that informs his classroom instruction, designs innovative curricula and guides students in real-world investment strategies. Additionally, his leadership as the lead manager of the Cougar Student Managed Hedge Fund since 2017 exemplifies his dedication to experiential learning, providing students with hands-on opportunities to apply financial theories in a dynamic market environment.

During his tenure at Saint Xavier University, Dr. Hoque became recognized as a founding chair in 2009, a role he upheld until 2017. This position played a pivotal part in developing academic programs and fostering institutional growth. Before his tenure at the university, Dr. Hoque garnered international experience as a chair and professor of finance at Abu Dhabi University from 2006 to 2007, where he contributed to curriculum development and academic leadership in a global context.

In addition to these roles, Dr. Hoque was affiliated with the MIT Sloan School of Management in 2022. Appointed as the AI roadmap designer, he helped shape artificial intelligence (AI) strategies for business applications.

Dr. Hoque’s academic foundation is rooted in rigorous scholarship. His undergraduate studies culminated with a Bachelor of Science from Dhaka University in Bangladesh in 1979, followed by a Doctor of Philosophy in economics in 1987 and a Master of Science in finance in 1988 from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. These academic achievements have underpinned Dr. Hoque’s success as an educator and researcher.

In addition to his formal education, Dr. Hoque pursued specialized certifications to remain at the forefront of emerging trends. In 2022, he completed a certificate program in AI and its implications for business strategy at the MIT Sloan School of Management. The previous year, he obtained a fintech certification from the University of Oxford. These credentials have enabled Dr. Hoque to integrate cutting-edge topics such as AI and financial technology into his teaching and research.

Throughout his career, Dr. Hoque has actively engaged with professional organizations. He has been a member of the program committee for the Global Finance Conference since 2021, contributing to thought leadership and industry collaboration. Beyond academia, Dr. Hoque is committed to civic engagement as a volunteer with Chicago Cares’ child care initiatives. He enjoys volunteering and distributing meals within his community, reflecting a broader commitment to service.

Dr. Hoque’s editorial leadership became evident when he served as the founding editor of the Journal of Finance Insurance for MBAA International from 2007 to 2021. In this role, he advanced scholarly discourse within the finance community by overseeing publication standards and promoting research excellence.

Reflecting on his career, Dr. Hoque’s most notable achievement lies in his role as an innovative educator who forges strategic corporate alliances to connect academia with industry. Driven by a deep commitment to societal betterment, he continually refines his teaching methods and creative initiatives, ensuring his influence extends well beyond the classroom. Dr. Hoque’s efforts were recognized with several honors, including a Teaching Excellence Award from the Academy of Finance in 2019 and a 2022 nomination for Teaching Excellence at Saint Xavier University.
