Lori B. Pitcock, EdD, dean of students at Cecil County Public Schools, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Educators for dedication, achievements and leadership in education.
Dr. Pitcock’s career in education spans over two decades, marked by her commitment to fostering academic excellence and supporting gifted students. Since 2024, she has served as the dean of students at Cecil County Public Schools in Elkton, Maryland. In this role, Dr. Pitcock has been instrumental in developing programs that enhance student engagement and success.
Cecil County Public Schools is a public education system that serves residents of Cecil County. The school system has approximately 15,000 students across nearly 30 schools, including 17 elementary schools, six middle schools, five high schools and one technical school.
Affiliated with the Cecil County public school district her entire career, Dr. Pitcock briefly held the role of Title I local support teacher in 2024 before stepping into her current role. She was also a secondary mathematics teacher from 2023 to 2024. Dr. Pitcock’s tenure as a gifted and talented instructional coach from 2014 to 2023 was particularly notable, as she was responsible for developing a program for gifted students that earned her the Maryland Gifted and Talented Teacher Award in 2018 and 2019.
Dr. Pitcock’s educational background is extensive and diverse. Following her undergraduate work, she received two master’s degrees, one in elementary education curriculum instruction and assessment with a focus on reading intervention and another in educational leadership from the American College of Education. Subsequently, Dr. Pitcock earned a Doctor of Education in educational leadership and administration from the same institution in 2022. Her academic achievements have been pivotal in her ability to design effective educational programs and lead initiatives that benefit both students and educators.
In addition to her formal education, Dr. Pitcock’s professional development is further supported by certifications, such as AVID DigitalXP – Elective Coach and AVID DigitalXP: Elementary 3–6 from the AVID Center. These certifications have equipped her with innovative strategies to enhance teaching methodologies within her field.
Dr. Pitcock is an active member of several industry-related organizations, including the National Association for Gifted Children, the International Literacy Association, the Council for Children with Behavioral Disability, and the National Education Association. These affiliations reflect her dedication to staying informed about best practices and emerging trends in education. They also allow her to network with other educators and professionals involved in the academic setting.
In addition to her professional accomplishments, Dr. Pitcock co-authored “Teacher Perceptions of Twice-Exceptionality: A Qualitative Study,” published by ProQuest in 2022. This work underscores her commitment to understanding and addressing the unique needs of gifted students.
Dr. Pitcock attributes much of her success to the unwavering support of her family. Her husband has played a significant role by providing support during critical phases of her career, allowing her to focus on her professional responsibilities while raising their two sons. Looking ahead, Dr. Pitcock aspires to advance within the school system, with ambitions to become an assistant principal and eventually a principal. Her passion for supporting teachers and students remains at the forefront of her career goals as she continues to make impactful contributions to the field of education.
