Patty M. Street, Associate Director of Student Services and Event Coordinator at Appalachian School of Law, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Educators for dedication, achievements, and leadership in Education.
Ms. Street has dedicated over 45 years to her profession, demonstrating a steadfast commitment to education and community service. Since 2012, she has served as the administrative assistant and associate director of student services and event coordinator at the Appalachian School of Law, a private law school in Grundy, Virginia. In this role, Ms. Street is responsible for a range of tasks, from checking emails and scheduling for the school to meeting with students throughout the day, attending Student Bar Association meetings, and organizing school events such as graduation. Her diverse expertise in these areas has been instrumental in her success.
Appalachian School of Law was founded in 1994 and is accredited by the ABA. The institution serves just over 125 full-time students annually and offers a three-year Doctor of Jurisprudence degrees.
Having been recruited to Appalachian School of Law from Buchanan County Public Schools, Ms. Street worked in human resources, diligently supporting the educational system. Also based in Grundy, the public school district comprises 10 schools. Ms. Street’s work here was instrumental in her ability to smoothly transition from public school education to academia.
Ms. Street’s academic journey began with coursework at Southwest Virginia Community College in 1989 after graduating from Grundy High School. As a local of the community, she attributes much of her success to the many individuals who have shaped her approach to her work and community involvement, including her parents, who instilled in her the importance of doing her best, and her mentor, Ms. Presley.
Ms. Street’s dedication extends beyond her professional responsibilities. She is an active member of the town council in Grundy, where she contributes to local governance and community development. Her involvement in civic organizations includes serving as a Sunday school teacher at Tookland Pentecostal Church since 1984, being a board member of her local police department, volunteering for scheduling at Mountain Mission, participating in various community activities, and donating blankets for needy children. During her earlier years, Ms. Street spent over a decade volunteering with the Special Olympics while working for the Buchanan County Public Schools. This experience significantly impacted her both professionally and personally.
In addition to her professional and civic commitments, Ms. Street has become an author. Her forthcoming book, “The Schools of Buchanan County: The Past and The Present,” is set to be published by the end of 2025. This work highlights her passion for education and history.
Ms. Street’s contributions to the field of education have been recognized through several awards, including the receipt of a Staff Member of the Year Award in 2024 and two more in 2025. She also received a Dean’s Award. These accolades reflect her dedication and impact within her professional sphere.
Looking toward the future of her career, Ms. Street aims to continue representing her law school as a prominent figure in student services. She also intends to remain active in her community by working within her town to bring more events and business opportunities to the forefront. Furthermore, Ms. Street aims to focus more on supporting the elderly in her church community.
