Dr. Callins has established a remarkable career in education and speech-language pathology, marked by her dedication to empowering students with disabilities. As the founder, chief executive officer, executive director and principal of the Language & Literacy Academy for Learning in Winter Haven, Florida, she has been instrumental in transforming the educational landscape for her students since 2016. Dr. Callins’ journey began as a speech-language pathologist, where she honed her skills in communication and reading disabilities. This passion led to the creation of her academy, which provides a nurturing environment for students to thrive academically and personally.

In addition to her role at the academy, Dr. Callins is the founder and chief executive officer of The C-Suite Chic, a position she has held since 2024. Specializing in hosting impactful talks that provide real-world strategies for navigating workplace challenges, she has become recognized as an invaluable resource for clients, fostering inclusivity and empowerment in the corporate sphere. As such, Dr. Callins delves into the complex and sensitive topics of addressing inequality, racism and discrimination in the workplace, focusing on non-confrontational strategies. Her approach emphasizes the importance of initiating and engaging in conversations that foster understanding and promote change, without escalating tensions.

Before pivoting into entrepreneurship, Dr. Callins held leadership roles in rehabilitation services, having served as the regional director of operations for Diversicare Therapy Services from 2015 to 2017 and as the regional director of rehabilitation services at Avante Group between 2012 and 2015. Her earlier roles included district manager at Aegis Therapies and assistant therapy program manager at Ambassador Rehab Services. Dr. Callins’ career began as a speech-language pathologist at Genesis Rehab Services and Spring Lake Nursing Center, dating back to 2006.

Dr. Callins’ academic achievements have been pivotal in her professional success. She earned a Bachelor of Arts in communication sciences and disorders, a Master of Science in speech-language pathology, and a PhD in curriculum and instruction in special education from the University of South Florida. Her coursework at Florida Agricultural & Mechanical University further enriched her expertise. In addition to her formal education, Dr. Callins received several certifications, including as an ADHD-rehabilitation services provider, autism spectrum disorder clinical specialist, youth mental health specialist, ADHD teacher trainer and ADHD parent coach. She also garnered a Lean Six Sigma black belt for education.

Dr. Callins’ commitment to professional development is evident through her active involvement in numerous industry-related organizations, such as the Council of Administrators in Special Education, the Council of Exceptional Children, the American Speech-Language Hearing Association, the Florida Association of Speech-Language Pathologists and Audiologists, and the National Black Association for Speech-Language and Hearing. She is also the education committee chair and board member for the National Coalition of 100 Black Women.

Beyond her professional roles, Dr. Callins has been influential in civic engagement. She volunteers at the Strawberry Festival in Plant City, Florida, and is a member of organizations like Children and Adults with Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder, the Florida Consortium of Public Charter Schools and the Florida Charter School Alliance.

As an author and presenter, Dr. Callins has shared her insights on culturally responsive literacy instruction and special education through various publications and conferences. Her works include “Can I Get a Refill” and “My Cup Runneth Over,” along with presentations at prestigious events like the Education 2.0 Conference and Voices of Women Conference. Dr. Callins’ dedication to education was notably recognized with an Excellence in Education Award at the Education 2.0 Conference.

Committed to raising awareness for students with disabilities, Dr. Callins is focused on ensuring they graduate with high school diplomas and either pursue higher education or enter the workforce. Her faith has guided her throughout her journey, providing her with resilience against the challenges she has faced and helping her draw strength from her achievements.
