Additionally, he has taken on the role of head girls wrestling coach at Saugerties High School in 2024, leveraging his many years of former success as a high school wrestling and spring track and field coach. Beyond his teaching and coaching background, Mr. Brown served his country in the U.S. Army for over 20 years as a second lieutenant and armor platoon leader before retiring as a major. His military experience has been instrumental in inspiring many of his student-athletes to pursue careers in the military as commissioned officers.
After completing Armor Officer Basic School, Nuclear Biological Chemical Warfare School and Armor Officer Advanced School, Mr. Brown received a Bachelor of Science in physical education teaching and coaching at Morgan State University in 1982. Years later, he earned a Master of Science in humanistic multicultural education at the State University of New York at New Paltz in 2010. He excelled in both freestyle and Greco-Roman wrestling, winning championships in both styles. Recognized by the coach from the U.S. Army World Class Athlete Program, Mr. Brown was invited to try out for the all-army wrestling team. After making the team, he competed in the world championships, qualified for two Olympic trials, and became an alternate for the Barcelona Olympics in the 163-pound weight class.
Mr. Brown was a four-time national qualifier and two-time NCAA Wrestling All-American. He was also inducted into the Kingston High School Hall of Fame and the Morgan State University High School Athletics Hall of Fame.
