Marilyn Endo

Title: English for Speakers of Other Languages Teacher
Company: Olympic Heights Community High School
Location: Boca Raton, Florida, United States

Marilyn Endo, English for speakers of other languages teacher at Olympic Heights Community High School, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Educators for dedication, achievements, and leadership in education and human resources.

Ms. Endo is a former executive in the human resources industry who has since transitioned into education as an English for speakers of other languages (ESOL) teacher at Olympic Heights Community High School. Since 2009, she has been influential in educating students from various countries on the English language. Joyful to be serving in her position, she draws tremendous satisfaction from working with her students while at the same time learning about their various cultures. Before being hired by the school, Ms. Endo notably volunteered on campus for a year. During this time, she focused on teaching English for speakers of other languages to students who were illiterate in their own language. Concomitantly, she was tutoring clients in essay writing; when her school learned this, they hired her to help seniors who wouldn’t graduate from school, but could graduate with their GED, but weren’t able to write essays. Under Ms. Endo’s tutelage, 100% of these students received their GED that year.

Before pivoting into education, Ms. Endo spent 25 years as a director of human resources and training in the hospitality industry. During her tenure, she worked at Hilton Inc., a subsidiary of Hilton International, responsible for over 30 restaurants and engaging in management responsibilities and server training. The experience allowed her to make a substantial difference and enhance others’ lives. Ms. Endo also succeeded as an associate director of personnel in the nonprofit sector for the American Lung Association. Leveraging her extensive career background, Ms. Endo earned an undergraduate degree in communications from American University and a master’s degree in human resources training and development from Columbia University.

Beyond her professional career, Ms. Endo is an unpublished author of her first children’s book, “Who Wears That Hat?”, which she hopes to see on bookshelves very soon, and she hopes to write others to continue empowering young girls. Beyond her expertise as an author, Ms. Endo notably won a contest for a poem she penned for her daughter, “Twist of Fate.” Attributing much of her success to her passion for helping immigrants find their way, Ms. Endo recalls one of her most notable achievements while helping one of her students from Haiti realize her capabilities, as she was honored for her writing in a district-wide competition. Eager for the future, she intends to continue impacting her students while becoming more involved in charity work, particularly those that cater to abused women.
