Before being recruited to Fayetteville, Mr. Sanders was a communications instructor at San Juan College from 2021 to 2022. He also held various other faculty appointments with several other institutions throughout his tenure, including Passaic County Community College as a coordinator for the new student experience from 2020 to 2021 after initially teaching Public Speaking and College Success from 2014 to 2020. Between 2012 and 2016, Mr. Sanders was an admissions counselor at The College of Westchester. He also excelled at Dover Business College as a professor of English from 2009 to 2012, assistant dean of advisement in 2011, and career services associate from 2011 to 2012.

In addition to his work at the academic level, Mr. Sanders was an English language arts enrichment and GED teacher at Best Resource Center Inc. between 2006 and 2011. He also taught English at North Junior High School from 2004 to 2005 after serving as a long-term substitute teacher at Newburgh Enlarged City School District between 2001 to 2004. Earlier in his teaching career, Mr. Sanders was a special education aide at Newburgh Free Academy, dating back to 1998.

After graduating with a high school diploma from Newburgh Free Academy, Mr. Sanders continued his studies. He received an Associate of Arts in humanities from Orange County Community College in 1998, a Bachelor of Arts in communications and media studies from State University of New York (SUNY) at Old Westbury in 2001, a Master of Arts in communications and media studies from New York Tech in 2004, and a second Master of Arts in special education from Touro College in 2010.

The program provides young men a safe space to be themselves and, among other advantages, includes a curriculum and platform for learning various aspects of manhood.

Mr. Sanders’s hard work has earned him numerous recognitions, including a Dean of Students Award for Outstanding Leadership and Academic Excellence from SUNY at Old Westbury in 2001 and a Teacher of the Year Award from San Juan College in 2021. He credits much of his success to the many individuals who have invested in him and provided mentorship opportunities to help in his career advancement.

Eager to achieve future success in education, Mr. Sanders is now pursuing a doctorate in educational leadership at East Carolina University. He also has intentions of starting a motivational speaking company. Beyond his professional goals, Mr. Sanders aims to establish a nonprofit organization to benefit young men of color. Furthermore, he plans to create a scholarship in memory of his sister, who passed away at 24 from colon cancer. The scholarship will provide students from his alma mater, Newburgh Free Academy, with opportunities to further their education.
