Mr. Powe, an expert in community health, has been serving as a program director at the Green Transitions Clinic, a part of Roper Saint Francis Healthcare, and has been instrumental in his role since 2023. Based in Charleston, South Carolina, he oversees the transitions program, which focuses on frequent patient volume within the emergency department, helping them avoid overusing services and transitioning the facility into an established primary care. Before becoming a program director, Mr. Powe was a practice manager of orthopedics for the organization and a practice manager of metrics and physician success and of orthopedics in Summerville, South Carolina, between 2022 and 2023.
Among other noteworthy roles, Mr. Powe was affiliated with the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston from 2015 to 2022. Hired as a hospital patient accounting and collector, he was promoted to oncology financial coordinator in 2017, telepathology and information solutions supervisor in 2018, operations logistics coordinator in 2020, and revenue analyst in 2021, a position he maintained until 2022.
Mr. Powe excelled early on in other fields as a switchboard operator and administrative assistant at Trident Technical College between 2010 and 2015 while pursuing his associate degree and as a maintenance technician for Berkeley County Government from 2008 to 2015.
Becoming highly educated to support his career goals, Mr. Powe received an Associate of Science in science, cell biology and anatomy at Trident Technical College in 2013, a Bachelor of Science in kinesiology from Charleston Southern University in 2015, a Master of Health Administration from Webster University in 2017, and a Doctor of Health Administration at the Medical University of South Carolina in 2023. In addition to his formal education, he is a licensed notary public in South Carolina, holds diversity, equity and inclusion in the workplace certification, and is Lean Six Sigma yellow belt certified.
Mr. Powe is active in his professional community as a member of the Healthcare Financial Management Association, the Association of University Programs in Health Administration and the Marin College of Health Protection Health Executives. Civically, he has been affiliated with several nonprofit, religious and other organizations, including Habitat for Humanity, Crusade for Christ, and local food banks. He also served as a worship minister for Nickols Residential Care from 2008 to 2020 and as a volunteer for Bread of Life between 218 and 2023.
In 2018, Mr. Powe was recognized as a Dr. David J. and Kathryn Cole BRIHTE Leadership Academy Scholar. He also received an Emerging Leader accolade in 2022 for his contributions to health care leadership. Mr. Powe attributes much of his success to the mentorship received from his first manager while working at the Medical University of South Carolina, an experience that has a lasting impression on him and his leadership style.
As he anticipates the future of his career, Mr. Powe intends to continue advancing, specifically in a leadership role in the health care administration sector. Through his community, he wants to continue giving back his time to his church as a Sunday school teacher, where he derives tremendous satisfaction.
