Richard Tyler, PhD, professor at the University of Iowa, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Educators for dedication, achievements, and leadership in higher education.

With nearly four decades of experience, Dr. Tyler has established a successful career in higher education. Since 1981, he has served as professor of otolaryngology at the University of Iowa in Iowa City and professor of communication sciences and disorders, while also teaching courses on audio high-fidelity systems since 1986. He has also contributed extensively to professional journals. He laid an educational foundation, he earned a Bachelor of Science in 1974 and a Master of Science in audiology in 1975, both from Western University in London, Ontario. He went on to complete his PhD in psychoacoustics at the University of Iowa in 1978. His professional credentials include certification in clinical competence in audiology and licensure in audiology from the state of Iowa, as well as the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association’s certificate of clinical competence.

A leading authority in tinnitus research, Dr. Tyler’s scientific work focuses on quantifying tinnitus and investigating various treatments. He sees tinnitus patients weekly and hosts an annual tinnitus treatment workshop. He has edited seminal texts on the subject, including “The Tinnitus Handbook” in 2000, “Tinnitus Treatments: Clinical Protocols” in 2006, and “The Consumer Handbook on Tinnitus.” He has also dedicated his time to the National Science Foundation, the World Health Organization, the American Academy of Otolaryngology, and the Veterans Administration. He has also held international academic appointments, including as a visiting scholar at the Swedish Institute in Stockholm and a visiting professor at Macquarie University in Sydney, both in 1978. Additionally, he is a member of the Acoustical Society of America, the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association, and the American Auditory Society.
