Peggy L. Denton, Professor Emeritus at the University of Wisconsin La Crosse, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Educators for dedication, achievements, and leadership in Health Care and Education.
Dr. Denton is recognized for her success and tenure in health care and education, which spanned over 40 years before being named a professor emeritus in the health professions department at the University of Wisconsin La Crosse in 2017. Her tenure on campus was marked by a passion for teaching students as they prepared for their future careers in occupational therapy.
Before her tenure at the University of Wisconsin, Dr. Denton was a faculty member at Concordia University in Mequon, Wisconsin, from 1995 to 2003. Hired as an associate professor of occupational therapy, she became a full professor and the director of the division of occupational therapy in 1999. Dr. Denton also gained early success in the classroom as an assistant professor at the University of Wisconsin in Madison between 1979 and 1983.
Besides her academic appointments, Dr. Denton spent many years in the field. Initially a staff occupational therapist at Rogers VA Hospital in Bedford, Massachusetts, from 1973 to 1978, she joined Methodist-Meriter Hospital (now UnityPoint Health) in Madison in the same capacity between 1983 and 1986. Subsequently, Dr. Denton was promoted to supervisor of occupational therapy for the hospital until 1987 before joining Rocky County Health Care Center in Janesville, Wisconsin, as an occupational therapy administrative consultant from 1988 to 1999.
Dr. Denton became highly educated, earning a Bachelor of Science in occupational therapy from the University of Minnesota in 1972, a Master of Science in occupational therapy from Boston University in 1979, and a Doctor of Philosophy in urban education from the University of Wisconsin in Milwaukee in 1997. Her extensive educational background has been pivotal to her tenure in health care and academia.
As part of her commitment to her field, Dr. Denton actively participates in industry-related organizations. She is an elected fellow of the American Occupational Therapy Association, a member of the Society for Research in Child Development, and a member and former board of directors for the Wisconsin Occupational Therapy Association. Civically, Dr. Denton remains affiliated with the accreditation review board for the Accreditation Council for Occupational Therapy Education in Bethesda, Maryland, since 1995. She is also active in her parish as a bell choir member at United Church of Christ.
As a seasoned researcher, Dr. Denton has published numerous articles in scholarly journals like Hospital and Community Psychiatry and Development Review. She has also been published in PubMed, Psychiatry Online and other media outlets for her expertise.
Throughout her tenure in occupational therapy, Dr. Denton has made significant strides in helping patients navigate essential life skills that contribute to their overall well-being and lead to more fulfilling and independent lives. She credits much of her success in this sector to her nurturing upbringing and ambition to go above and beyond to continually excel. Her relentless drive and determination have earned her numerous leadership roles and professional fulfillment.
