Alexander D. Christoforidis, Founding Partner at Synthesis Architecture and Associate Professor at the University of Cincinnati, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Educators for dedication, achievements, and leadership in Architecture and Education.
Mr. Christoforidis is a seasoned architect and educator passionate about his industry. For over 20 years, he has been at the helm of his firm, Synthesis Architecture, in the Cincinnati area. Specializing in architectural design and master planning for various modern structures in the residential and commercial sectors, he also maintains a niche expertise in designing Orthodox Christian churches.
For more than a decade, Mr. Christoforidis’s partner has primarily managed the daily operations of his firm. He currently oversees just a few projects each year, limiting his involvement due to his full-time position in education. Acquired by the University of Cincinnati in 2005, Mr. Christoforidis has been devoted to teaching future generations of architects as an associate professor on campus. He teaches professional development courses within the Bachelor of Architecture program and third- and fourth-year Master of Architecture students.
When he is not lecturing, Mr. Christoforidis advises students by leading the university’s Architecture Cooperative Education Program. In this capacity, he is tasked with preparing them for their first professional experiences in architectural firms. He also meets with every student individually upon completing their internships to reflect on their practical experiences and assess their progress. Moreover, Mr. Christoforidis closely monitors the competencies required for students to achieve professional success and licensure.
Having begun his career in 1996 as a senior designer at Scheer & Scheer Architecture and Planning, Mr. Christoforidis succeeded as a project architect at Carl A. Strauss and Associates Architects from 1997 to 2001. These early roles were instrumental in gaining the foundational expertise necessary to pivot with the formation of Synthesis Architecture.
Mr. Christoforidis graduated from Upper Arlington High School in Columbus, Ohio. Subsequently, he received a Bachelor of Science in architecture and urban planning in 1989 and a Master of City and Regional Planning in 1993 from The Ohio State University. Highly qualified in his field, Mr. Christoforidis is a licensed architect and LEED AP certified.
Besides his primary work endeavors, Mr. Christoforidis has been actively engaged in industry-related organizations, including the American Institute of Architects (AIA), where he notably served several years as a board member and as chair of the membership committee. Additionally, he is active in the American Planning Association.
Civically invested, Mr. Christoforidis has had the opportunity to serve as the director of Greek language at the Holy Trinity Saint Nicholas Greek School since 1998. This tenured position is a testament to his faith and devotion to serving his community.
As an expert in his field, Mr. Christoforidis authored “Neotraditional Developments/the New Urbanism (Cpl Bibliography).” The 29-page paperback book was published by the Council of Planning Librarians and is available on Amazon.com.
In recognition of his many accomplishments, Mr. Christoforidis has received several accolades. In 2013, he was honored with the John and Wanda Mosbacker Award from the University of Cincinnati. He also received a Design Award from Custom Residential Architects Network and a People’s Choice Award.
In the coming years, Mr. Christoforidis intends to continue developing the architecture program at the University of Cincinnati. He is also working on another publication and is contacting possible publishers to bring his work to fruition.
