Mark G. Wagner, PhD, educator and historian, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Educators for dedication, achievements, and leadership in education.
With nearly four decades of experience, Dr. Wagner has built a distinguished career in education, sports, and authorship. He currently serves as an educational consultant for the Carnegie Designation in Community Engagement, a role he has held since 2023, and as an adjunct professor at Worcester State University since 2022. His previous experience includes serving as a professor at Worcester State University from 2011 to 2022 and teaching at Nichols College, MassBay Community College, and Quincy College. He was also a teaching assistant at Boston University. He laid a strong educational foundation with a bachelor’s degree from the University of Massachusetts Amherst, a master’s degree in writing from Boston University, and a PhD from RMIT University, earned in 2007.
Dr. Wagner has also contributed through written works, including “Native Links: The Surprising History of Our First People in Golf” and contributions to WBUR in 2023 with “Why We Should Teach Students About Love” and The Boston Globe in 2021 with “Utopian Book on Golf.” Additionally, he released a CD titled “Waking Up in A Dream” in 2020 and has published poetry, including “A Cabin in the Field.” He has also dedicated his time as founding director of the John J. Binienda Center for Civic Engagement at Worcester State University. He is an active contributor to civic and cultural organizations, including the American Red Cross, Massachusetts League of Women Voters, United States Golf Association, Worcester County Poetry Association, and The Hanover Theatre and Conservatory for the Performing Arts. He is also a member of the Massachusetts Teachers Association and a past member of the Modern Language Association.
In light of his impressive undertakings, Dr. Wagner has received several honors, including runner-up for the Coyne Prize in 2023, a citation of excellence from the Massachusetts State Legislature in 2022, and various poetry awards. He attributes his success to the loving and supportive environment in which he was raised as one of eight children in a close-knit family outside New York City. His determination and self-discipline have been vital in overcoming challenges and achieving his goals. Looking to the future, he is committed to fostering connections between the Native American community and the golf industry, creating opportunities for collaboration and integration and aims to expand his recognition as a storyteller and historian.
