Roy Biñas Basa, PhD, Head Teacher at Zuni Public School District, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Educators for dedication, achievements, and leadership in Education.
Dr. Basa is a head teacher at the Zuni Public School District in New Mexico, a position he has held since 2020. As such, he passionately teaches students high school science and career technical education. He also oversees the design, implementation and evaluation of the curriculum to ensure it meets the educational standards and needs of students. Among other daily objectives, Dr. Basa provides professional development opportunities for teachers, is tasked with conducting performance evaluations and supports staff in improving their teaching practices. Before joining the Zuni Public School System, he taught for the River Valley High School in Bullhead City, Arizona, from 2018 to 2020.
Highly educated, Dr. Basa studied at the University of Negros Occidental Recoletos, where he received an undergraduate degree in secondary education, a Master of Art in education with a major in school administration and supervision, a Doctor of Philosophy in educational leadership, and a master’s degree in education with a major in natural sciences. Besides his academic background, he is active in his professional community with the National Science and Teaching Association and the Royal Institutions Educators of Singapore, among others, and is civically active with BullpenREInc. Dr. Basa notably authored “Branches of Science From A – Z” in 2022.
Throughout his career, Dr. Basa has been lauded for his expertise and has received numerous accolades. Most recently, the New Mexico Public Education Department named him the New Mexico Teacher of the Year in 2024. He has also received numerous National Science Teaching Association honors and was named as One of the Most Outstanding Teachers in the Philippines, a coveted award he received from the Metro Bank Foundation and confirmed by President Rodrigo Duterte. A beloved teacher, Dr. Basa attributes his success to the ongoing inspiration from his students and the unyielding support of community members. In the future, he intends to continue his work in the school system, teaching students more than just academics but strong moral values that will lead them to future success beyond the classroom.
