Cheryl O’Harra, director and teacher at TLC Preschool, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Educators for dedication, achievements, and leadership in early childhood education.

Ms. O’Harra is an esteemed professional in early childhood education with over 35 years of experience to her credit. Since 2009, she has been instrumental as both a teacher and director at TLC Preschool in Wisconsin, a preschool she founded that is Montessori-based and focuses on nurturing, hands-on learning, freedom of choice, self-correction and independent learning. Ms. O’Harra decided to establish TLC Preschool after driving one of her own children 100 miles each way per day to earn a proper education at the nearest Montessori school. Following her husband’s passing, she chose to open her own school while raising her five children independently. Since its founding, the school has grown from just 10 to 55 students.

Highly educated, Ms. O’Harra received an associate degree in social services, followed by a bachelor’s degree in early childhood education and music and a master’s degree in early childhood education. Following college, she worked as a teacher for a Montessori school in Minneapolis from 1987 to 1995. Subsequently, Ms. O’Harra taught second grade and served as the school librarian at Aspen Elementary School in Wyoming before accepting a position as a media assistant at UCSD. Her background in early childhood education, music and library science has been instrumental in her career progression.

Apart from her primary career objectives, Ms. O’Harra has been active in her professional community as a member of the National Association for the Education of Young Children and through civic engagements, such as Trinity Lutheran Church as an outreach coordinator and musical accompanist and volunteer with The Salvation Army and local dog rescue organizations. Reflecting on her lengthy and successful career in the classroom, the most valuable lesson Ms. O’Harra taught her students was that they can overcome adversity and succeed based on their merit alone.
