Dr. Aaron Jagers Jr., department chair and associate professor at Southwest Tennessee Community College, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Educators for dedication, achievements, and leadership in academia.
With over two and half decades of experience, Dr. Jagers has established a successful career in education. Since 2019, he has served as department chair and associate professor at Southwest Tennessee Community College, overseeing 65 faculty members and two technology specialists over nine programs. His responsibilities include allocating resources, developing course schedules, managing programs, and securing and managing grants to support departmental initiatives. His experience also includes education management specialist for Shelby County Schools from 2018 to 2019 and information technology consultant for Tech Savii in 2017. From 2006 to 2017, he was an educator at Louisiana Delta Community College-Tallulah Campus and held adjunct roles at Everest College Online from 2011 to 2016 and South University from 2010 to 2014. He also served as a subject matter expert for KM Institute from 2011 to 2012 and worked as a computer technician for Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society from 1999 to 2006 and Venture Technologies from 1998 to 1999.
Dr. Jagers laid a solid academic foundation, earning a bachelor’s degree in industrial technology from Jackson State University in 1998, a Master of Business Administration in technology management from the University of Phoenix in 2005, and a PhD in community college leadership from Mississippi State University in 2017. He also holds an administrative services credential for PreK-12 grade level administration in Washington DC. He is also certified as an Apple Teacher, Microsoft Innovative Educator, Google Teacher Level 1, and is CompTIA A+ and Security+ certified, and a qualified copper and fiber cabling instructor. Additionally, he is a member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Inc.
Reflecting on his path, Dr. Jagers takes pride in his promotion from assistant professor to associate professor and the attainment of tenure. Another accomplishment he notes is leading the creation of the Aviation Operations Technology Program, the first of its kind at a Tennessee community college, offering students the chance to earn an associate degree and pursue careers as pilots or in aviation administration. He attributes his success to a strong work ethic, unwavering dedication, and excellent organizational skills. Looking to the future, he aspires to advance into a leadership role in higher education, focusing on aligning STEM programs and curricula with industry expectations. He is also committed to fostering a culture of innovation and adaptability by encouraging faculty to integrate modern industry practices and technologies into their teaching.
