Aftan T. Wright, EdD, Assistant Principal at Moreno Valley Unified School District, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Educators for dedication, achievements, and leadership in academic administration.
An inspirational leader in her field with more than 20 years of experience to her credit, Dr. Wright has excelled as the assistant principal for the Moreno Valley Unified School District since 2022. Ensuring the safety and comfort of both students and teachers in their respective learning environments, she is responsible for the development and implementation of individual education plans while handling matters in relation to special education students, including those with learning disabilities, and advocating for diversity and inclusion initiatives in her present position. Also appointed as ESY summer school principal during this time, she previously found success in the San Bernardino Unified School District in a number of roles between 2003 and 2022, including as a high school, middle school, and elementary school counselor, a substitute teacher, and a mathematics teacher. Likewise, Dr. Wright expanded upon her skill set in her field as an employment program representative in the Employment Development Department in San Bernardino Unified School District from 2009 to 2013.
To support her professional ambitions, Dr. Wright initially pursued an education at Texas Wesleyan University, earning a Bachelor of Business Administration in international business administration in 2003. She continued her academic efforts with a Master of Business Administration in global business emphasis and international business from the University of Redlands in 2006, a Master of Science in educational counseling with PPS credentials from National University in 2011, a Doctor of Education in community college leadership from FIelding Graduate University in 2020, and a Master of Science in applied school leadership from National University in 2022. Obtaining additional credentials from UC Irvine, the University of La Verne, and the Association of California of School Administrators Leadership Institute, she is currently enrolled at the University of California Los Angeles School of Law on a $30,000 scholarship, where she aims to graduate with a Master of Legal Studies in employment law and human resources law in the near future. Dr. Wright has provided his wealth of expertise to others as a mentor with United Way between 2013 and 2018 and Uncommon Good between 2015 and 2018.
Attributing her success to her dedication, her hard work, her expanding skill set, her emotional commitment to self-improvement, and the unwavering support of her family, Dr. Wright was notably presented with the AAPAC of the Month Award in recognition of her stellar work with impoverished parents. She was drawn to her field after feeling a calling to utilize her leadership skills to establish inclusive environments where students can thrive, including outside of the classroom. Among her many accomplishments thus far in her career, she is incredibly proud of her work with African American parents in order to help their children raise their self-worth regardless of their economic status, as she was able to parlay her experiences from throughout her personal and professional lives to help them. In the coming years, Dr. Wright hopes to create a portfolio that showcases her commitment to her work while continuing to foster a positive and motivational environment for the next generations of students.
