Jeff Hendrix, Professor at California State University and Founder and Director at Jazz Dance Conference West, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Educators for dedication, achievements, and leadership in Education and Dance.

Mr. Hendrix is recognized for his distinguished tenure in videography, dance and higher education. He has split his time between working as a self-employed videographer for over 30 years, founding and directing the Jazz Dance Conference West, founding the Jazz Dance Alliance, and teaching dance at California State University (CSU) in Dominguez Hills.

As a videographer, Mr. Hendrix focuses on providing elite services for customers. He oversees all aspects of the Jazz Dance Conference West and manages its websites. The conference is an annual event that takes place each Memorial Day weekend. It is sponsored by his university, CSU Dominguez Hills, and allows dancers to train and network with other industry leaders. Similarly, Mr. Hendrix oversees the Jazz Dance Alliance, an elite jazz dance company focusing on American dance’s rich history. Moreover, Mr. Hendrix excels in the classroom, passionately lecturing students about dance history. Besides teaching, he is creating a comprehensive jazz dance history course that other institutions can use to train dancers.

In addition to teaching in Dominguez Hills, Mr. Hendrix has taught at CSU Long Beach and CSU Los Angeles, his alma mater, the University of California Irvine, and over 10 different community colleges throughout Los Angeles and Orange Counties.

As an educator, Mr. Hendrix’s extensive portfolio includes teaching and choreographing internationally at numerous prestigious institutions, including Luigi’s New York City Dance Center, the New Jersey Ballet, Valley Russe Montreal, Colombo Zurich in Switzerland and Schutz Ballet in Vienna. During the COVID-19 pandemic, he provided online dance instruction for individuals in Mumbai and Delhi, India. As a dancer, Mr. Hendrix has been widely recognized for his performances in “A Chorus Line,” “Guys and Dolls” and “Oklahoma,” among others. These opportunities testify to his skill as a dancer and performer. He has also choreographed numerous works for plays at local colleges throughout California.

In preparation for his future, Mr. Hendrix received an undergraduate degree in radio, television and film from the University of Texas at Austin in 1977. He also garnered a Master of Fine Art in dance with a focus on choreography and videography from the University of California at Irvine in 1988. To remain abreast of industry trends, Mr. Hendrix has been a prominent member of the Screen Actors Guild and the Dancers Resource Center.

Mr. Hendrix attributes his professional accomplishments to his perseverance, passion and commitment to the industry. He also notes his diverse training and personal development. Mr. Hendrix takes pride in building strong connections with others in the field and being respected for his work ethic and expertise. Initially inspired by his mother to pursue a dance career, she encouraged him to participate in a summer workshop at 17 at Southern Methodist University in Dallas. This workshop was instrumental in shaping Mr. Hendrix’s future, allowing him to learn about jazz and modern dance fundamentals from the French dancer and actor Tony Beck.

Looking toward the future, Mr. Hendrix aims to bring jazz back into the spotlight through the Jazz Dance Conference West and Jazz Dance Alliance. He considers the Jazz Dance Conference West the most significant of his career achievements. Continuously expanding, it has become known for drawing community connections, and he hopes to take the conference internationally. Additionally, Mr. Hendrix envisions becoming recognized as a jazz dance historian.
