Terry L. Burge, Creative Educational Guru at Burge Educational Consultants, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Educators for dedication, achievements, and leadership in education.

Mr. Burge is a passionate advocate for equity in education for students, schools and school districts. He is dedicated to ensuring that all students have access to the resources necessary to thrive and receive a quality education. With 25 years of experience in education, he has played a pivotal role in transforming schools, districts and communities. Throughout his career, he has served as a principal, literacy coach, instructional specialist, intervention coordinator and teacher, and his expertise includes literacy, math, English language development and teaching students with disabilities. As a creative educational guru at Burge Educational Consultants, he provides professional development and coaching for executives, administrators and teachers at all levels of education.

After earning a Bachelor of Science in communication and media studies from Lamar University in 1988, Mr. Burge began his career as a teacher, gradually working his way up to the role of principal and district administrator. As an educator and administrator, he is known as a “wartime” person, someone who is called in to reform challenging environments. He is dedicated to ensuring that children receive a quality education and firmly believes that any child can learn if they receive the necessary support, which inspired him to become a principal. Following his tenure as a principal, he left the district and worked as a consultant for Orendo Education, a technical support provider specializing in assisting struggling schools. Over the years, he worked with various school districts, including the Linwood and Whittier School Districts as well as the Los Angeles Unified School District.

Upon the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, Mr. Burge experienced a drastic shift in his career. He began training teachers to transition to online teaching, a task that required him to remain ahead of the curve and quickly adapt to rapid changes in technology and teaching expectations. Though initially skeptical about remote teaching and online education, over the two years of the pandemic, his perspective changed. Stepping down from his administrative role, he shifted into a new role as an online teacher for the third grade, which proved to be one of the most rewarding experiences in his 25-year career with the district. He was deeply engaged with his students, empowered, and connected with parents. Although there were challenges, overall, it was a phenomenal experience, and he received positive feedback from his students. Despite facing various hurdles, he succeeded in helping his students, including those with special needs, adapt to the online learning environment. This experience reinforced his belief that remote education is as effective as its in-person counterparts, and he regards the transition from administrator to teacher in virtual academies as the pinnacle of his career. This shift has enabled him to witness firsthand the profound impact he is making and to contribute meaningfully to his community.

Moving forward, Mr. Burge plans to continue his work at Burge Educational Consultants, which he founded in 2023. As an educator, he hopes to leave a lasting mark not only on individual students and teachers but on entire communities, thereby shaping the very essence of American cities.
