Christopher Caputo, Science Teacher at I.S. 98 Bay Academy, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Educators for dedication, achievements, and leadership in Education.

Mr. Caputo is an experienced biology teacher who teaches for the New York Public School System at Intermediate School (IS) 98-Bay Academy in Staten Island, New York. Since 2017, he has been instrumental in the education of eighth-grade students and in managing the after-school Science Olympiad Program. Teaching since 2015, Mr. Caputo began in the classroom as a science education intern with the Staten Island Institute of Arts & Sciences before becoming a student assistant at PS 111 Adolph S. Ochs School and student teacher at PS 191 Museum Magnet School and Tottenville High School. In addition to his position at IS 98, he has also been serving as the assistant director at the Richmond County Day Camp since 2013.

Highly educated, Mr. Caputo earned a Bachelor of Science in environmental science and a Master of Science in adolescent education biology at Fordham University in 2016 and 2017, respectively. He has since become active in the National Science Teaching Association, providing him with a place to network and remain abreast of teaching trends.

Among his most notable accomplishments since becoming a faculty member at IS 98 was Mr. Caputo’s ability to compete in the national Science Olympiad tournament. It was notably the first time a New York City public school team made it into the competition, and he subsequently received an award for leading his students to the tournament in 2023. Mr. Caputo draws immense motivation and inspiration from his work and has plans to continue teaching and coaching his science team while elevating the Science Olympiad program. He also envisions further professional development by creating an innovative curriculum and expanding his role. Ultimately, Mr. Caputo remains focused on fostering continued success and a lasting impact in his educational endeavors.
