Audrey Marie Baker, EdD, Education Consultant at ELIPD.org, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Educators for dedication, achievements, and leadership in education.
For 60 years, Dr. Baker has devoted herself to education initiatives in the state of New York. Since 2018, she has served as an education consultant with the Executive Leadership Institute of the Council of School Supervisors and Administrators, also known as ELIPD.org. Alongside this role, she has served as an education consultant with the Center for Educational Innovation-Public Education Association since 2017. Though she began her career with the New York City Housing Authority, she quickly transitioned into education after crossing paths with a former high school teacher who advised her that her talents would be better suited to teaching. As her parents had raised her to understand the importance of education, she recognized the truth in her former teacher’s words and transitioned to teaching and educational administration.
Dr. Baker has held a variety of roles in the educational system, including special education assistant principal, principal of the District 8 School for Theater Arts and Research and director of pupil personal services. She began her own education at the City University of New York, where she earned a Bachelor of Arts in linguistics with a minor in Chinese. She went on to earn a Master of Science in education administration and supervision from Pace University, followed by completion of the seminary special prevention of violence training program offered through Auspices of the Harvard School of Public Health. Because of her contributions to the education field, St. Martins College presented her with an honorary doctorate in humane letters. Completing her education at Sage Colleges of Albany, she earned a Doctor of Education. Reflecting on her career, she attributes her success to her parents, upbringing, education and cultural exposure.
Among Dr. Baker’s notable accomplishments are her recognition as a legendary leader by the Council of School Supervisors and Administrators (CSA) in 2017, her selection as a legendary honoree by Tender Steps of New York Inc. and her receipt of President Biden’s Life Presidential Lifetime Achievement Award in 2024. In addition, she has been the director of pupil personnel for 24,000 children and was selected by her district to serve as the local equal opportunity coordinator. She is a lifetime member of the Association of Black Educators of New York Inc., the outreach coordinator for the New York City Police Department’s 79th Precinct and a certified mental health first aid responder. In relation to her career, she has served as a special education instructor at The City University of New York and a professional development and education consultant for the Long Island School District.
Looking to the future, Dr. Baker hopes to remain in public education, working with administrators and legislators regarding nursing home care. For many years, she has been a member of the Long Term Care Community Coalition, and as a part of the coalition, she worked with elected officials to write legislation that will better the quality of care in nursing homes. As she approaches the latter part of her career, she plans to travel more and spend time with her family.
