Title: Educational Consultant

Marsha M. Brown, self-employed educational consultant, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Educators for dedication, achievements, and leadership in educational instruction.

Raised from childhood to value the power of education, Ms. Brown devoted nearly 40 years to being a public school educator. Beginning in 1970, she established herself as a teacher who was committed to helping children become the best possible versions of themselves. Ms. Brown prided herself on being a creative and energetic educator, always open to trying new ideas to engage with students. She also emphasized getting to know students on a personal level in order to better understand what they needed and what problems might be going on in their lives outside of school.

Among her career accomplishments, Ms. Brown is particularly proud organizing a summer school program. Targeting students who were not performing well in class, she created a unique conference-style program. At the start of the summer, Ms. Brown would have each student talk about what they wanted to be when they grow up. Then she would contact and bring in different teachers who could elaborate on the skills needed to achieve each of those dreams. Ms. Brown also reached out to guest speakers outside of the school system to ensure that students were able to take important lessons from the program. For students who weren’t sure what they wanted to be, she worked with them to explore potential answers before the end of the summer.

In 2007, Ms. Brown retired from her role as a teacher. However, she was still eager to apply her decades of experience to helping young people. Encouraged by a friend who had taken a similar path, Ms. Brown stepped into the role of educational consultant beginning that year. Her contributions in this position include working with the Minneapolis-based Young Inventors program and the Young Innovators Fair, which operates out of Kettering University.

Prior to embarking on her professional journey, Ms. Brown set a solid foundation in her own education. She obtained a Bachelor of Arts in social sciences with a minor in mathematics from Central Michigan University. Subsequently, Ms. Brown earned a master’s degree in educational instruction from Oakland University. Devoted to lifelong learning, she has made a point throughout her professional life to constantly take in new information and reassess her efforts.

To commemorate her accomplishments, Ms. Brown has received numerous accolades. She was presented with the Educational Excellence Award by the Michigan Association of School Boards. Throughout her career, Ms. Brown was named Teacher of the Month by her school multiple times. She credits her achievements to the support and guidance of her family, friends, colleagues and mentors.

Known for her contributions as a civic-minded citizen, Ms. Brown has offered her time to many causes that are important to her. She has served as a volunteer for the Oakwood Cemetery and Arboretum, the Glenwood Cemetery, and Crossover Outreach, a religious organization that provides food, clothing and other resources to those in need. Ms. Brown also supports the Mott Foundation, the Applewood Estate and the Crim Fitness Foundation.

Beyond her career, Ms. Brown is a dedicated wife, mother to two and grandmother to three. Though she is retired from teaching, she hopes to continue being involved in helping children. Ms. Brown aims to do whatever she can to teach others the importance of education, and to make that education available and equitable to all children.
