Karin Kloppel, clinical educator at Providence, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Educators for dedication, achievements, and leadership in nursing.
With nearly four and a half decades of experience, Ms. Kloppel has built a successful career in nursing, specializing in emergency and critical care. She currently serves as a clinical educator at Providence, a role she has held since 2020, and as a registered nurse at Providence Holy Family Hospital since 2018. Her responsibilities include overseeing the onboarding process for new hires, ensuring they have the tools needed for success. She also coordinates the transition into practice program for individuals new to emergency or critical care. Additionally, she organizes ongoing staff training, including emergency department technician skills reviews and rapid response training for intensive care nurses. Her experience also includes serving as a registered nurse at St. Peter’s Hospital, Providence, from 2005 to 2018 and at St. Francis Hospital from 1992 to 2006. She was a unit-based educator at a local hospital from 2000 to 2005 and a registered nurse with HRN Services from 1990 to 1992. She has also been actively involved in her community, volunteering at her local church and schools.
In light of her impressive undertakings, Ms. Kloppel is a one-time recipient and two-time nominee of the Daisy Award in 2016 and 2017. Laying a solid educational foundation for these successes, she earned a Bachelor of Science in nursing from San Diego State University in 1986. She holds several certifications, including the Certified Emergency Nurse credential from the Board of Certification for Emergency Nursing, and the CCRN certification in adult, pediatric, and neonatal care from the American Association of Critical-Care Nurses. Reflecting on her path, she takes great pride in the impact she has made on countless individuals in the nursing field. A standout moment came when a nurse approached her at a conference, recalling how she had inspired him when he first began nursing 20 years ago. She attributes her success to her passion for making a positive impact on people’s lives. She views this as a chance to make a difference by showing compassion, empathy, and empowering individuals to care for themselves or their loved ones during challenging times.
In the coming years, Ms. Kloppel aims to build a strong, empowered team of nurses, encouraging them to feel confident in their abilities and consider pursuing roles as educators. She inspires her trainees to take on leadership positions, engage in shared governance, and develop new skills. By reducing their fear of unfamiliar equipment and promoting hands-on practice, she believes they can build the muscle memory necessary to perform effectively in crisis situations. She is also dedicated to her own professional development and is currently working toward obtaining a professional development certification, which she aims to complete by the end of the year. This accomplishment will complement her existing three national board certifications. Additionally, she aspires to earn a fellowship with the Emergency Nurses Association. In advising aspiring professionals, she emphasizes the importance of exploring different nursing specialties, engaging in residencies or fellowships to reinvigorate passion, and taking advantage of the profession’s flexibility, job security, and opportunities for growth to find long-term fulfillment. In her personal time, she enjoys spending time with her family, knitting, and quilting.
