Heather J. Goehring, MEd, instructional coach with the Los Angeles Unified School District, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Educators for dedication, achievements, and leadership in teaching and training.

With a decade and a half of experience to her credit, Ms. Goehring has built a successful career in academia, specializing in coaching new teachers. She currently serves as the English language arts department chair and an instructional coach at the Los Angeles Unified School District. In these roles, she helps lead school-wide and district-wide professional development, mentors new teachers, coordinates and orders numerous novels for classroom use, secures funding for various projects through DonorsChoose to provide extra resources, organizes field trips to the opera and strives to incorporate the arts into her instruction as much as possible. Additionally, she is an instructor for Schoology, their learning management system, and provides cognitive coaching. Her experience also includes serving as department chair at the Los Angeles Unified School District for two to three years and as an English language arts teacher for 14 years. Prior to that, she was an elementary school teacher at the Los Angeles Unified School District, a countrywide supervisor in the Document Certification Department at Macy’s Inc. for five years, and a department manager at Macy’s Inc.

Ms. Goehring holds memberships with United Teachers Los Angeles, the California Teachers Association, the American Federation of Teachers, the National Council of Teachers of English, and the Los Angeles Modern Quilt Guild. In light of her impressive undertakings, she was honored with an Award for Expository Reading and Writing Curriculum from California State University in 2024. Laying a solid educational foundation for her successes, she earned a bachelor’s degree in liberal studies from The Master’s University in 2005, a Master of Education from the School of Education and Psychology at Pepperdine University in 2007, obtained Cognitive Coaching certification in 2022, and Expository Reading and Writing Curriculum Certification from California State University in 2024.

Ms. Goehring takes great pride in empowering teachers by coaching them, building their confidence, and encouraging them to be their best selves. This approach, which prioritizes self-confidence and authenticity, has been a core principle throughout her career. Her most noteworthy accomplishment was securing $80,000 worth of new books for English classrooms in 2022, which has had a life-changing impact on her teachers. She attributes her success to having mentors and being open to trying new things. In the coming years, she aims to achieve national board certification for teaching, leading to a pay raise and validating her credentials across all states. This certification will also open up new opportunities for leadership roles and professional development within her school district. Upon retirement, she is considering roles such as a museum docent for school trips and exploring coaching opportunities and other forms of education, possibly through virtual platforms. She advises those entering the field to be genuine with their students, emphasizing that authenticity fosters better connections and responses from students, and that teachers should avoid adopting facades or rigid conventions, instead bringing their authentic selves into the classroom.
