Debra Ann Jackson Robertson, educator and teacher at the Archdiocese of New Orleans, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Educators for dedication, achievements, and leadership in academia.

With nearly three and a half decades of experience to her credit, Ms. Robertson has established a successful career in the field of academia. She is currently an educator with the Archdiocese of New Orleans, a role she has held since 2019. In this capacity, she teaches fourth grade students in all subjects, provides differentiated instruction to the students due to various learning styles and abilities, communicates with parents daily, assists the principal with scheduling and school operations, and provides staff development and support.

Prior to this, Ms. Robertson worked with St. Stephen Catholic School under the Algiers Charter School Association from 2016 to 2019, McDonogh #32 Elementary School under the Dryades YMCA Charter from 2012 to 2016, and as principal at James M. Singleton Charter under the Orleans Parish School Board from 2010 to 2012. Additionally, she held positions with Mary M. Bethune Elementary, Lanier Elementary, Bernard Terrance Elementary, Park Elementary, McDonogh #40 Elementary, now Barbara Jordan, and John A. Shaw Elementary. She also served as assistant principal at Paul L. Dunbar and worked as a college advisor at Southern University and A&M College.

In addition, Ms. Robertson holds various memberships, including president of the Epsilon Sigma Chapter of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority Inc., Krewe of Nefertiti, Opal & 2024 Goddess, Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority Inc., and the Algiers Charter Schools Association. Her civic involvement includes serving on the East Baton Rouge School Board from 2005 to 2010 and the Orleans Parish School Board from 1992 to 2005. She is a donor to St. Jude and March of Dimes, Compassion International, and a fundraiser for AfricaCare. She has also served as chairperson of the Student Success Team for the Orleans Parish School Board, grade level and department chairperson, regional secretary, area director, and chapter secretary at Southern University. Additionally, she is a member, lector, liturgical dancer, and director of religion at St. Raymond & St. Leo the Great Catholic Church.

Laying a solid foundation for her success, Ms. Robertson pursued a Bachelor of Arts in elementary education at Louisiana State University in 1991 and a Master of Science in educational administration at the University of New Orleans in 2000. She holds certifications in elementary education for grades 1st-8th and in educational administration leadership. 

In light of her impressive undertakings, Ms. Robertson has been honored with the New Orleans City Council Award for Community Service by the New Orleans City Council in 2024, the Making a Difference Award by Dillard University in 2015, the Exemplary Community Service Award by Sigma Gamma Rho in 2014, the Woman of the Year award by Sigma Gamma Rho in 2011, the Advisor of the Year award in 2010, the Assistant Principal Spirit Award, the Geraldine Washington Award in 2005, and the Orleans Parish Teacher of the Year award in 2000. She attributes her success to the influential women in her life. Her grandmother instilled in her the importance of church, while her mother taught her the value of hard work, generosity, and understanding. She regards her second-grade teacher, Ann Marie James Miller, as a hero and second mother, who has supported her throughout her entire career.

Looking ahead, Ms. Robertson recently applied for a position with Southern University at New Orleans as the assistant to the vice-chancellor of student affairs, and she plans to continue her education by pursuing a doctorate in college counseling. In the short term, she aims to transition to secondary education at the college level, where she can guide and support students in a counseling role rather than teaching in a classroom.
