With many years of experience in the fields of computer science and education to her credit, Ms. Zayas has excelled as an assistant professor at Rasmussen University since 2023. In this position, she teaches both computer science and software development applications. Previously, Ms. Zayas served as the department chair at the School of Technology at Rasmussen University from 2019 to 2022. In the years prior, she was active as a professional development facilitator with Cod.org from 2014 to 2020, an instructor of computer science at The Johns Hopkins Center for Talented Youth (CTY) from 2013 to 2020, and an instructor at One Schoolhouse from 2014 to 2021. Moreover, she worked as a web developer for EZ Internet Services from 2000 to 2017 and a teacher at the Kihei Charter School in Kihei, Maui, Hawaii from 2007 to 2015. Ms. Zayas began her career as the owner of a computer repair shop and an independent contractor before shifting her attention to software development, finding success as a senior computer scientist with the Computer Sciences Corporation between 1990 and 2003.
Initially attending a data processing repair technician school in 1980. Ms. Zayas’ formal academic efforts are equally impressive, having initially earned a Master of Science in software engineering from Monmouth University in 1996. She subsequently pursued doctoral studies (ABD) in computing technology in education at Nova Southeastern University in 2001. Ms. Zayas’ commitment to continuous learning is evident through various certifications, including recent accolades such as a Verified Certificate for Introduction to Web Accessibility from edX in 2022 and a Code in Place certificate from Stanford Online in 2023.
Ms. Zayas is incredibly proud of her ability to adapt to the evolving technological landscape, particularly during the COVID-19 pandemic. She also fondly recalls her tenure at One Schoolhouse, which equipped her with the skills necessary for effective virtual teaching and ensured a seamless transition during global disruptions. Looking toward the future, she envisions continuing her passion for teaching in a part-time capacity, sharing her knowledge and experience with aspiring technologists. Moreover, Ms. Zayas hopes to cement her legacy as one of remarkable dedication, steadfast persistence, and genuine enjoyment of her work.
