Across more than 50 years as a critical care nurse and professor, Dr. Lauchner has established herself as a leader in her field. She found success for 10 years teaching at Concordia Texas University, where she also served as dean of their nursing program. After retiring, Dr. Lauchner was distinguished as professor emerita—a cherished highlight that concluded an impactful career. Before joining Concordia Texas University, she built her reputation as a professor at Austin Community College for 25 years. Dr. Lauchner’s early career includes tenures with the University of Kentucky and the Anoka-Ramsey Community College. She remained an active nurse throughout her career, a distinction that sets her apart from many other nursing educators.

Dr. Lauchner’s performance in the field was born of her academic journey. She earned a bachelor’s degree in 1968 and a master’s degree in 1972, both from the University of Evansville. Dr. Lauchner then graduated with a PhD from The University of Texas at Austin. She maintains membership in such industry-related organizations as the American Nurses Association and the American Association of University Professors. As a past member of the Roy Adaptation Association, a group of nursing scholars, Dr. Lauchner presented at conferences around the world, sharing her perspective with a global audience.

Dr. Lauchner credits her success to a passion for nursing and education and the satisfaction she gets from helping others. Though she’s now retired, she continues seeking opportunities to help people whenever possible. In her post-career life, Dr. Lauchner has also embraced other sources of joy, such as exercise, taking care of plants and traveling. She will soon be visiting Peru, where she intends to deliver donated medical supplies. Dr. Lauchner dedicated her professional life to sharing her expertise freely and eagerly, and she shows no signs of stopping in retirement.
